No but it's kind of silly to broadcast strong opinions based on nothing.

But the vast majority of people who actually live there and not on monger holiday are former mongers or reformed mongers.

I've no objection to the Sin City concept  but the sheer dreariness and vulgarity is hard to stomach.

Me & all of my mates found our way to Pattaya after living in Bangkok for a few years (I came down here 1st as my Partner had close family living in Rayong & we wanted to get out of the city & live by the sea), none of us moved here for the Mongering.

It's like judging Bangkok by Soi Nana / Cowboy etc..., or Singapore by Geylang / Orchard Towers (Now gone) etc... Yes it's there if that's what you're looking for but it's not hard to avoid if you're not looking for it.

Again, you're talking about one small part of Pattaya City, out by the lakes there are some really nice houses, I live in a really nice beach front condo, there's something for everybody here.

My big decision moving here (long ago) was between Jomtien (greater Pattaya) and Chiang Mai. I had enough boots on the ground experience with both to make an informed decision.

While I like the Chiang Mai a lot and the expats are more in general closer to "my kind of people" I have never regretted my decision. Pattaya even after the horrible Covid years which was a Black Swan international phenom, keeps getting better and better.

A wise person speaks because they has something to say. A fool speaks because he has to say something.

Too many fools on this board, thinking they're special because they have a large number of (useless) posts.

You make some fair points and obviously there are going to be exceptions, no doubt many.

However Pattaya is a resort built on prostitution and that is the reality. The judging by Soi Nana/Cowboy argument doesn't really work because Bangkok is built on so much else and has a sophisticated and educated middle class.

So you admit you know NOTHING about the place.

Brilliant!

True. Lot of the usual bashing from the utterly clueless. Sour grapes, mostly, but I can't fully account for the desperation. We've heard all the silly assumptions and generalizations countless times. They're still kinda funny.

Yep, it's another great day to be in Pattaya. May I have a couple more decades here.

Out of pity, lemme throw out this bone for our detractors to chew: the traffic situation isn't perfect, ha ha. But, man up and work around it. :)

No but it's not very clever to comment on something or somewhere that you have absolutely no first hand experience about, is it?

I've never been to Newcastle, hence i don't call it the toilet it is.....

Rubbish, it was fishing village. Until 1991 there were 5 tiny gogo bars in the town, 4 in soi diamond plus TQ.

Pattaya's great for girls (or boys or ladyboys) and fun, and the beach/sea has improved a lot.  What's not to like?

Pattaya is okay for a trip, bit too touristy to live there. It would be like living in Nana area of Bangkok.

I would say living outside Pattaya on the coast would probably be quite nice.

I live Pratumnak and head central Pattaya nearly every day, we all think it's a great place to live, not good for those with a drink problem

Oh agree 100% , some of the posts started  on here are ....well...quite frankly I don't know how to describe them

But let's get back to positivity and how we all enjoy the paradise of Pattaya 🤗

I get so peeved off when I read posts that just knock Pattaya continually .

I was actually in tears last night reading posts on another forum where the writer was so negative Pattaya

Please let's be grateful

I love Pattaya and as soon as I can I'm going to retire there., but I'm planning in the next few years .

For those of you who haven't retired what's your dream about living in Pattaya ?

Mine is to live in the Arcadia resort in Soi 5 Jomtien and walk to the RAGE fight academy where they have muay  Thai boxing for seniors

Wake up every morning to the sunshine  with a coffee on the balcony , stroll thru my day with the gym and Canterbury Tales bookshop ,

What a life to enjoy in Pattaya

Relax at night in a bar ,enjoy our trip me left

If only I could retire ...we all love Pattaya !! 🤗

I enjoyed living there.

I enjoy visiting there.

I don't "love everything" about it.

The Pattayaphobics have issues that are nothing to do with Pattaya per se.

Here's one now:

Another who does not realise those lovely girls you have zero in common with, at best tolerate you and at worst hate you. They are actresses paid to act- it's called prostitution.

Ignore them.

It was built on fishing, as my friend Lt. Col. Richard, former bomber pilot stationed at U-Tapao, has affirmed. Used to rent a boat with some guys and head out to Koh Larn.

What's unreal is living in the past, with which you seem obsessed.

With whose members you're unacquainted. So does Pattaya, actually, as you'd discover outside the only streets you know. On weekends a lot of the Bangkok middle class seems to invade Pattaya as well. Many own condos in Pattaya.

WTTFF is wrong with that statement? Anyone?

IMO someone who claims to be into Muay Thai and crys over what other people say - is a fake.

It began as a small fishing village but its growth and reputation were driven by prostitution. It's true that Thais and for that matter non monger expatriates from Bangkok given the short distance use its hotels/golfing infrastructure at weekends - but there is not much of a long term sophisticated resident Thai or farang community. The dominant Thai influence on Pattaya's administration is essentially criminal in nature.

That you're aware of, having seen little of Pattaya, but in fact there is, living in the upscale condos and the housing estates all around. Business owners, professionals, middle managers, etc. Kids going to private schools and later studying abroad, the whole bit. The dynamic growing economy built on international and domestic tourism and retirees has led to a surprisingly prosperous small city.

The argument that the middle class isn't as large as Bangkok's is silly and irrelevant, given the respective sizes of the cities. The worry about "residency" is phony in any case. You don't have a credible argument.

Just as there is an awful lot more to Bangkok than Nana, there's an awful lot more to Pattaya than what's in your mind.
