A Thai mother is calling for justice after a foreign motorcyclist collided with her son’s motorcycle on a road in Phuket and fled the scene, leaving only 4,000 baht in compensation. The Thai victim sustained injuries, and his motorcycle was damaged in the incident.

The mother reached out to the Facebook news page Phuket Times to seek justice for her son, whose identity, along with hers, has not been disclosed. The page reported the matter today, January 24, stating…

“A Thai mother is calling for justice! Her son was hit by a foreign motorcyclist, resulting in injuries and damage to his motorcycle. The foreigner handed over 4,000 baht and left the scene, claiming to be in a hurry. He even asked her son not to file a complaint with the police before disappearing.”

The accident reportedly occurred on a road in the Ban Kuku community in the Ratsada sub-district of Phuket. The victim has filed a complaint with the police, but no updates have been provided.

The incident sparked widespread discussion among Thai netizens, with many sharing similar experiences and expressing frustration with the perceived inaction by police.

Comments included…

“We have to admit that the officials cannot do anything about this.”

“They just think money is everything, and they are not scared of the Thai police.”

“My boyfriend was a victim in a similar case. The foreigner gave him 1,500 baht and fled.”

“I had a similar experience just yesterday. A foreigner hit my vehicle and simply said ‘Sorry’ before speeding away.”

“Thai laws seem to apply only to Thai people. Migrant workers and foreigners face no consequences for their wrongdoing, and Thai citizens are treated as second-class citizens.”

“Thai police are always too busy to deal with these road issues.”

One commenter recalled a similar incident from October last year, where a foreign woman crashed her car into a motorcycle in Phuket and left the scene, offering 3,100 baht in compensation. Although the case was widely reported by Thai media at the time, there has been no follow-up or resolution.

Maybe the mother thinks she can get more compensation from the foreigner. She admonished her son for letting the ATM leave the scene.

  • Used to be at least 1 to 2 trips to Thailand every year… most of it in the Phuket area. Haven’t been there since 2016-2017, because Phuket hav been corrupted by not so nice people,  we have settled

& isn’t there a common conception that when a Thai breaks a law it’s a 500 baht fine & a Wai whereas a foreigner gets the book thrown at him or it costs him dearly - equal treatment is certainly a distant reality.

No mention if her son was perhaps 12 years old ? If so let's keep that hidden.

The foreigner perhaps thought the matter was settled 🤔  if cctv cameras around soon get to the bottom of the facts

The mother should claim compensation through the rental shop......they all have comprehensive insurance. 😂

Do they? Comprehensive insurance was not available on the bikes we rented in Chiang Mai two years ago. Only the compulsory medical insurance that comes with registration.

What a BS story, it is all about money, Thailand is only about money. Foreigner left only ……. never satisfied always more…

How much money would they have accepted if a Thai national would have caused the accident?

He’s being sarcastic.

I don’t know what the mother is worrying about, that’s a nice shiny adv150/350 I am sure as they could afford a new bike like that, the kid had full class 1 bike insurance. Leave it to the investigators to pursue. That’s also /s.

Maybe it’s time for Thais to realise that insurance, consideration for other road users and rider training isn’t something that applies to other people.

I got hit in the back by a Burmese guy last week no licence no insurance no registration no helmets no brakes 3 wheeler so I called the coppers they arrived and took pictures then off to Chalong station, the cops took his passport and tomorrow I go to pick up money but that's it so I'm happy he's paying to fix the damage but in the western world he'd be in jail but this is Thailand so I'm thankful for that.

In the west If the offender has limited funds the government has first dibbs leaving the victim uncompensated. I've seen it happen many times . A drunk hit my friends car did $2000 worth of damage, had no insurance. He was fined $2000, that's all he had so my friend was stuck with the repair bill. Another time two blokes stole a load of beer. They were caught and one paid a $200 fine and the other $400 but he was not compensated for his beer. So a system that puts the victim first has its merits.

Ok, and who is to blame for that? The foreigners, the police, or the Thai people?

Now that is a typical comment from an uneducated, brainwashed product of the Thai Governments policy of breeding mushrooms. Absolutely no realisation of the xenophobic, racist policies here. Oh, wait a minute, She is behaving as a Xenophobe would, top marks to the Education system.

Sounds more like a hit and run criminal offense.

He could of been an overstayer if he asked the victim not to file a complaint

Total rollocks and yeah even when it is obvious to the police that a  young Thai motor cyclist who passes on the inside and a car driver indicated turning left collides with it and a little scratch on the leg but have to pay 3K Baht!!!!

I was parked on the side of the road and what looked like a dad teaching his son to drive came straight at me with the dad trying to turn the steering wheel to avoid hitting us.

He hit the side of the car mainly fender damage and wing mirror.

Anyway they parked up so i thought insurance will sort this out,
By the time i got out and started looking at the damage the little fu7kers were running around the car and changed drivers and fuc7ed off.

I turned around and went to stop them and they had long gone.

Never even got 4000baht just a flappy wingmirror and scuffed fender

Oh, and just as I thought that Thais would not want to change a thing about the absence of enforcement of road laws here...

A law that is not enforced is the same as no law at all.

And obviously people do not have a problem with that... until.....

Typical behavior for Thai. Get as much as possible for an accident. The boy probably agreed to the 4000 and the foreigner left then when he got home his mom saw $$$ possible and scolded the boy for not collecting more.

I had some woman reach out and grab my steering on my motorcycle and pull me off the bike causing her leg to catch on the foot peg. It cost me almost 500,000 baht after the mother got involved. Haha she wanted 2 million from me.

On the opposite side of the fence.. A Thai woman caused an accident with me sending me sprawling and some minor damage to my bike and my body. She fled and even though the police found cctv evidence and knew who the person was that owned the bike. They did nothing and there was no compensation for my injuries or for the damage caused to my bike.
