Yes, take old and new passports to the bank and they'll update. This should be done irrespective of whether you need something for immigration.

For the banks, I took a humble rubber band and wrapped it around the old and new passports. They can change their records easily when they have both.

When you attend branch for banking they will straight away update your pp details in your account.

Couple of minutes.

Don't forget to do transfer of stamps and visa info with immigration.

Some folk suggest update TDL.

Personally I don't bother with the TDL

Yes, and if you are using banking apps, the bank may need to confirm that your mobile phone number is registered in your name. So I would move updating the mobile carrier further up the new ID notification list, before hitting the bank.

I have recently gone through this process - may I add hospitals also.

And if you are renting, the real estate agent will need a copy of your new passport also.

I'm not bothering with transport office until driving licence renewal

why bring also the old passport? The banks already have the old passport number in their system. I just bring my new passport with the new visa stamp and the bank book. It took them 5 minutes

The new passport may have reference to non O visa.

The stamp won't be transferred.

Extension stamp and reentry stamp if you have one will be transferred.

Your can update bank account prior to transfer.

Most likely bank would like both pp

I had no drama's updating my new PPT with Bangkok Bank.

I was mildly surprised though when they punched a hole in my old bank book and issued a new one.

Immigration was a breeze.

Like others, I didn't bother with the DLT .

Banks have their own protocols

Well, I only bring my new passport and after a few weeks they even let me increase the daily transaction limit to 2 million THB, probably because I have Thai bank account since almost 9 years. No stress at all

The thread is about updating pp details when a pp is renewed.

Not daily limits.

In any event best advised to take both passports when updating details. Simple.

But you did bother with your Thai SIM card provider, did you not?

My bank (Bangkok Bank) noticed my passport number had changed a few months ago, this meant a new pass book, photo copies of current stamp, about 6 other bits of paper to sign took about 20 minutes

Because my Bank insisted on seeing both. SCB in Khon Kaen.

It is also necessary to update the Passport number with your telephone company. However, (for AIS) this can ONLY be done by attending their Shop (Khon Kaen Central, 3rd floor). No idea about True/DTAC.

KK Immigration do charge for transferring data to New Passport and also insist on seeing both old and new.

I just did all of the above in the last 10 days, in Khon Kaen.

Everywhere your passport number is used as identification needs to be changed to your new passport number.

  1. –and most important, is immigration office, where you need to get your original entry visa, last entry stamp and extension of stay stamp transferred to your new passport.

  2. Bank(s), as you cannot withdraw any funds with your new passport as ID. Some banbks can do it in the IT-system, other's might need to issue new bank books, for example Bangkok Bank that has your passport number printed with invisible ink in the bank book(s).

  3. Land Transport Office, if you have any Thai Driving License(s) with your passport number as ID.

  4. Mobile phone provider.

  5. Any loyalty cards – for example Central-card – where you passport number is used as ID. You cannot claim bonus, if your ID don't match what's stored in the system. Central was the most complicated change, when I got new pasport last year; 10 years ago they were the easy-peasy one.

I have had a few new PP while living here, TH, never caused an issue. Except for Imm, don't recall ever needing my old one to be shown.

I keep my bank informed of official documentation that they might need for the FATCA report to the US of my foreign bank account

I found the biggest problem was finding a bank with a short waiting queue. When you are 20th in line, a 2 hour wait is just a little to much.

Because banks, just the same as different immigration departments, all have their quirks and protocols. What applies at Kasikorn doesn't necessarily apply at Krung Thai, etc.

Why not adopt the belt and braces approach to save yourself time and trouble in an all-eventualities approach?

Were the "other bits of paper to sign" all in Thai and you were not given a copy of them?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

No copies given they were in Thai, just brought out and told to sign about 6 of them, 2 signed copies of passport bio page, and current extension in passport agai signrf in blue ink, they provided all the photocopies, i did not say a word as this was done at a branch which was not the one i opened it at, i was expecting them to say go to the branch you opened the account.

Good to know, thanks.

What would happen if you didn’t tell your bank?

In my case (Oz passport) the old pp is not sent with the application for pp renewal.

Many other have the old pp clipped or hole punch etc.

In any event it's important to update new details as for next extension the bank letter bank statement etc will need match new pp.

I'm the same - old passport kept (Oz).

Agree about telling the bank if letter for extensions are needed but if an agent is used, then not important to tell your bank, correct you think?
