Popular Post webfact Posted May 22, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 22, 2021 Picture: Thai Rath The Tourism Authority of Thailand's latest campaign to woo foreign tourists - starting in Phuket on July 1st - is a variation on a previous slogan. The new one is: "Amazing Thailand...Amazing kwaa derm" - Amazing Thailand....even more amazing than before. The TAT governor told Thai Rath that it was all systems go for the Phuket sandbox after he had a video conference with 50-60 tourism reps from the private sector on the holiday island. He threw out plenty of buzzwords. One was the importance of what he called "City Marketing". This was needed because if foreigners looked at the total virus numbers in Thailand they might be scared and put off visiting. So it was important that Phuket figures were reported separately to inspire confidence that the virus was under control. Thaivisa notes that this inferred that it was not under control elsewhere. This, said Yutthasak Suphasorn yesterday, fed into the "Countdown to Reopen Phuket" campaign at the TAT. This would explain clearly how many were infected with Covid-19 on the island and how many had been vaccinated. In addition Yutthasak has some other things up his sleeve. This included taking what he called 200 KOL Bloggers out in July to see how Phuket had changed for the better. KOL means Key Opinion Leaders, notes Thaivisa. This would all feed into that new Amazing Thailand slogan. Additionally he was planning on inviting foreign TV stations to Phuket over a 1-2 month period to show how well everything was going. Thai Rath also quoted a senior executive at Central who said that 85% of staff had been vaccinated creating a "herd immunity" that would inspire tourists to shop there. Now just one question remains to be answered, suggests Thaivisa. Popular Post madmitch Posted May 22, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 22, 2021 Is Phuket going to declare independence? Last time I looked it was part of Thailand, a country that has a deteriorating Covid situation, and a country that is not on the list for safe travel for many countries. Phuket may be deemed safe but foreign countries won't differentiate between Phuket and the rest of Thailand when it comes to quarantine upon return, meaning that it'll mainly still be long termers arriving. And July is always quiet anyway, so I'm expecting this to be seen as a practice run more than anything else. 16

Popular Post Guderian Posted May 22, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 22, 2021 It would indeed be amazing if any foreigners actually bothered with this premature foolishness. Thailand is on the UK's amber list at the moment, which means that you must quarantine for 10 days at home on your return, as well as booking and paying in advance for two Covid tests after your return and both the pre-flight tests, of course. If Thailand gets downgraded to a red list country, then you will also have to pay £1,750 for supervised hotel quarantine on your return,, and that downgrade can happen at any moment, even during your holiday. Why would anybody risk all that just for a few weeks on a beach in a place where, even if it's allowed to open again, the nightlife will be a shadow of what it once was. 14 6
Popular Post buzzz51 Posted May 22, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 22, 2021 Campaign as much as you want, go ahead open your borders but until other countries allow their citizens to travel to thailand nobody will come!!!! vaccine is the only way forward, so stop talking about what your going to do tomorrow and get on with it today, vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate. 5 1

Isaan sailor Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 In addition to their anemic vaccination response, consider that the vast majority of vaccinated Thais will have either SinoVac or home variety Astrazeneca shots. 1
Megasin1 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 meanwhile back in the UK the economy is booming, Spain is welcoming Britain without even a test although the Government is advising against travel, Thailand is marked Amber and a lot of people have credits with travel agents to use up (me included). UK will be the first market to holiday abroad, Thailand doesn't advertise here, unless you count Leicester FC and Amber's are on nobody's list. My ex is hoping for 70 thb to the pound to boost her Durian supply ???? 1

Now, what could possibly go wrong by using thinly veiled lies to promote tourism? What happens in six weeks when they get to Phuket and are arrested or harrassed by police the first night here for gathering with a few traveling companions and family member while having a beer or wine next to the hotel pool or on the beach? What happens if they are told they can not leave Phuket for their own safety? What happens when they get here and the island is essentially closed. Then the tourist sit in their hotels (or jail) and contemplate the marketing that brought them to Thailand in the first place??? 4 1
