BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Medical Sciences has announced that nine production lots of the AstraZeneca vaccine, manufactured locally by Siam Bioscience, passed quality inspection by the Department on May 25th.

Department Director-General Dr. Supakit Sirilak said Siam Bioscience has submitted another five lots for inspection, which should take about three days to complete, and the department expects the other five to pass the inspection as well. Each batch submitted for inspection contains a different number of doses.

He said, normally, the manufacturer sends a smaller batch of about 1 million to 2 million doses for inspection first, and then increases this to 2.5 million to 3 million doses per batch, once they have more manufacturing experience or have streamlined the process.

Siam Bioscience has promised the Public Health Ministry that it will start delivering doses to vaccination units in June.

I'd rather see the inspection by AstraZeneca  themselves. Or are they directly overseeing production and QC?

  • Well this is good news.

  • exactly, If the vaccine was not inspected by Astrazeneca themselves it could mean that the vaccine was inspected by the brown envelope.

So 1 to 2 million doses are ready to go? They will be there on 7 June.

So we can expect the second shot of AZ ,in the beginning of  October ????

I think they sent some to AZ last week for testing and it was approved.

Pointless to worry about, I think. My old Thai university did let me know the other day that as a retired faculty member I am eligible to be put on their vaccination program. They have already vaccinated Thai staff. Personally, I think it's better not to trust anything until the nurse is standing over you with a needle pointed at your arm.

I just hope it wasn't a batch AZ supplied earlier, returned back to them.

Please do not give them ideas!

Now we just have to wait for Kerry and Ninja to distribute it around the country. ????

Live in Bangkok and have been offered Sinovac no less than 3 times by private organizations.  Hard pass. Said I will wait for the real stuff. that always brought laughter.  Each time they said it was a good idea to wait for Monerna, Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson. I feel exactly the same about the locally produced AZ. Has anyone seen a picture of the production facility?

Did someone say get the Trumpets out ??

              ????  ????   ????  ????    ????  ????   ????   ????   ????  ????   ????   ????????

Respectfully disagree  ! I have a appointment  for "a shot"

on the 28th of June in the village !

I 'm also on the list for a M shot at a private hospital that expects  it to come in October !

I have been contemplating the dates and the quality of the vacc very much

Form an orderly queue genrals and vip's first ????

So when the Fat lady starts to sing will everyone believe that they are ready for vaccinations, just asking for a friend.......

Sounds good....but 'passing' also sounds to be something of a done deal. Does anyone expect the Department of Medical Science could possibly not pass anything coming from the sanctified, divine labs of Siam Bioscience?

Well lets hope the South African variant doesnt spread then.  AZ is not very effective against that strain.  Sinovac Saline water less so again.

Interesting timing.

And just enough detail to lay to rest the kerfuffle.

Not a lot of transparency here.

First it's June, then it's July, now it's back to June.

As usual no details of amounts to be delivered or when, just 'June' not good enough.

9 seems an odd number. Were there 10 tested and 1 failed?
