PHUKET: An oil spill washing up onto Phuket beaches as tar balls has now reached from Mai Khao Beach at the northern end of the island all the way to Nai Harn Beach at the southern end of Phuket’s west coast.

 

The tar balls have turned large stretches of sand dark, and raised serious concerns among local residents.

 

The Phuket News was first informed of tar balls washing ashore at Mai Khao Beach at the northern end of the island on Sunday (June 13) in what at the time was believed to be an isolated incident.

So know not only does Phuket have moral pollution they also have physical pollution.

If it already wasn't Phuket is phuked now. ????

Those gravel trappers will get one hell of a tan for their monstrous outlay ????

As i noted on the FB link page: Could possibly be from the ship that sank off Sri Lanka a couple of weeks ago. It lost hundreds of tonnes of oil and chemicals. It could even get worse.

It's tar-brush but not as you know it.

It's been happening for years, especially at Kata Noi, not in the least uncommon after storms to find it on the soles of your feet, on your board, balls of it on the beach, I normally use WD40 type spray and a scouring pad to remove it, horrible stuff.

Also, think it's more do to with passing ships, squid boats etc flushing their bilges.

thai health officials have just confirmed that the oil spill is toxic to the corona virus, thus making phuket even safer to visit, and encourage swimming in the oily water as an additional protective measure...

 

the tourists must flow....

And I thought only pattaya was a world class family destination ????

go for a swim kids, mom will clean the oil off you later????????

Tourists will navigate the gauntlet of regulations, rules, and restrictions, monitoring (GPS bracelet and smartphone tracker), and additional expense (mandatory SHA hotels ฿฿฿) - add mandatory mask wearing, closed bars and entertainment - and then top it off with beaches (the only entertainment left) covered with tar-ball from an oil spill.

Welcome To The Phuket Oil-spill Sandbox!!!

It would be ironic if they had to truck in clean sand and place the sand in a manner to actually create a sandbox so tourist have a place to play in clean sand?  ????

  Well I never - perhaps the forthcoming tourists will be able to enjoy a Turkish style "mud bath"?????

 

Been down at Nai Thon cleaning up the guey oil blobs for a while early morning today. Few locals helping out ????????

I'm so lucky, unlucky, I got one at bottom of my feet yesterday at Nai Harn beach, and another today at Patong beach, and everybody else had no problem...!!!!?

 

People win lotteries twice on a row , I get sticky oil paste, horrible. Stick to skin fast and if touch it to the fingers..., dark brown/reddish stuff... ????

 

I find the best quickest way is go to dry sand and use a lot of dry sand and rub it a lot, dry sand takes it off, water or wet sand, no use.... ! ☹️????
