Thailand’s Department of Rail Transport (DRT) has requested that passengers no longer talk on trains in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

 

As well as wearing face masks and making sure they socially distance, passengers should not talk to one another or on the telephone, the DRT chief Kittiphan Panchan said.

 

Passengers are also required to use hand sanitizer at the start and end of their journey and ‘check in’ using the Thai Chana smartphone app.

 

Rail services which normally operate between 9pm and 4am will also be reduced, Workpoint News reported.

 

The new measures are in line with the restrictions announced by the Thailand's Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) which affect Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla.

 

The new measures concerning rail travel will be in place until at least July 25.

Won't be long before anyone is not allowed to speak to each other at home; on Social Media, Emails, etc etc as then there can be no freedom of speech whatsoever, exactly what the Junta want !

Surely some kind of joke banning talking on trains, crazy or what.

Talking might be banned but try and stop them eating!

I expect that the head honcho was so desperate to have his 5 minutes on the telly that it went rather like this:

 

Best tightest uniform pressed - check.

Brilliant.....    with all hassles going on around us I’m glad there are some government departments who still have a great sense of humour.... 

 

Seriously though....  this stuff just makes you shake your head - the minds in of those charge are truly juvenile.

 

Some of the younger folk must be sitting in these meetings thinking ‘this guy (the boss) has truly lost his marbles’ yet is unable to speak up against the utter embarrassing stupidity because of Kraieng-jai !!!

Its the version of SARS-CoV-2 outbreak which occurred in 2010 from a the China Department of Transport...... fortunately it could only be spread by the Chinese High Speed Rail project in Thailand, so no one was really worried about it !!!!!!

jokes aside, it probably started in 2010 and took China 9 years to admit it

The recorded message played every few minutes on the BTS Skytrain asks passengers to refrain from talking.  It's been playing for months.  Of course, everyone abides by it!

I've suggested that a head shaking icon be added to the LOL, like, thanks and confused ones.

When they say don't talk on the telephone I'm assuming they mean public telephones where the virus could spread. They can't mean they think talking on a smartphone will spread it or that they think they'd be able to prevent it anyway.

No! The Indian vegetarian I had on Qatar recently was the best I have had on an airplane in economy class. Actual spicy food on a flight, a revelation.

 

Ban talking, less gum flappin', not as much spit flying. Associated benefit is not being assailed with the inane chatter of dullards and young females.

Especially Thais! Probably the most loquacious race I've ever meet, especially the women.

 

I haven't seen anyone here being able to shut their piehole for more than a minute (unless sleeping), so good luck with that..

 

There is no force in the world strong enough to keep two Thai ladies from talking, none.  Good luck enforcing that request!

I ride the BTS regularly in BKK, and these days, nobody is much talking while riding the train (as per their rules). I'm sure there are exceptions from time to time, but not common at all, in my experience.
