Purchase of 120 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine for 2022 approved by NVC

The National Vaccine Committee (NVC) approved today (Wednesday) the procurement of another 120 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine for next year, but withheld its approval of a draft announcement, regarding AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in Thailand for export, to ensure sufficient vaccine for Thais in the wake of rapid surge in infections.

Director of the National Vaccine Institute (NVI) Dr. Nakorn Premsri said the procurement of the additional 120 million doses is for those who still cannot access the vaccinations, those who require booster doses and for some to be held in reserve, in case of another outbreak. At the same time, the Disease Control Department (DCD) and the NVI will also try to procure up to 100 million doses as projected, as daily new infections have soared to almost 10,000 per day recently, with a concomitant increase in mortalities.

He also said that the committee wants the DCD and the NVI to meet with the vaccine maker and its local supplier to adjust the allocation of vaccine for domestic use and for export, which will require a change to the agreement between the state and local manufacturer, Siam Bioscience, which is set to produce 180 million doses Southeast Asia this year. Thailand is to receive about a third of that.

  • Too late , you're supposed to vaccinate everyone at the earliest opportunity in order to avoid the 10,000 cases per day

  • Some typos here. They meant 120 doses of Sinovac for a million baht in 2032.

Looks like that'll apply to most people in this country.

My mind continually boggles at this ongoing farce!

Hope it doesn't boggle over.

Why do they need that many doses for next year? I thought they were gonna vaccinate enough people to open up for tourism this October.

Thai population is around 70 million. 120 million doses of vaccine will be enough to double dose 85% of the entire Thai population.

I would like some clarification...

Interesting nugget.

so we have the CCSA, GPO, NVI, DCD, and we cant forget about good old dr yoong, on the case here in thailand, and they still cant get enough effective vaccine doses to stop the virus spread.

Can we please set it up somehow that these crooks make their profit based on how many people get vaccinated, rather than from buying submarine and chinese-produced saline jabs

Another "announcement" ...

Show us a list of what has actually been ordered and not more announcements of what may be ...

  • Popular Post

How many millions does that make 'on order' now"? Nobody is impressed with these announcements any longer.

Seems like it's been all about self-gratification for ages with this regime.

It feels like there have been more announcements like this than the number of actual vaccines in the country. So strange.

Anyway, perhaps their AZ production will save them if they can produce it quickly enough and decide to restrict (or forbid) exports. Many other countries are doing the same, so, bad luck for the countries who are totally reliant on imports.

But they haven't said they have ordered any. All they have said is that they agree to order the vaccines and that's not the same thing at all.

I’m waiting for the announcement that they’ve taken delivery of Moderna and/or Pfizer vaccines.  This year, maybe?

If only the Chinese one was actually cheap. It costs a similar price to an mRNA vaccine but as we all know is pretty well useless.

That's 90% of the population.

Except it's made under licence in Thailand, they have to abide by the contract.
