Restaurant owner puts luxury cars up for sale in bid to save once popular Suphanburi restaurant

It's come to this - Thais having to sell their four wheel pride and joys just to save their businesses from the latest wave of Covid-19.

Daily News reported that infections in the central province of Suphanburi yesterday were 1,856 cases.

Their reporters hot-footed it to the Pak Chong Wine Restaurant after reports that the owner was selling her BMW and Mercedes Benz cars.

Manatsaya or Yui Laisakun, 46, explained that her restaurant was so popular in Muang district that customers had to book pre-pandemic.

Now despite following all the rules, all the protocols, reducing staff, stopping music, not serving alcohol, trying online sales, she was faced with closing unless she tried something drastic.

The absolute final resort was to close the restaurant and let down her staff, many of whom have been with her for ten years.

So she has decided to sell her Benz 250 and BMW X5 and plow the proceeds back into the business to keep it afloat.

that is why Thailand must OPEN NOW ALL RIGHT NOW !!!

This will only get worse and the result will be more infections AND more

poverty losses and destroyed economy.

there is enough knowledge and expereience to conclude this - OPEN ALL NOW

and accept the resulting death toll, until vacconation.

might be me as well. no way to run.

it made sense to lock down in the first few months of the pandemic.

not now.

i also stayed in my room for few months. but not anymore.

simply imposible.

cannot live like that.

also my old parents stopped locking themselves and go out to the streets and gym.

no other way.

This is not true. The number of cases have fallen sharply over the last seven days.

Thankfully politicians have realized that masks and lockdowns don’t work and we will have to learn to live with this particularly nasty seasonal virus.

I think many on here do not seem to understand what this is doing to the elderly expat community - and by that I mean anyone over 55 on retirement visas/extensions.

If average life expectancy is say 85, it means about 3.3% of all expats in that bracket living in Thailand will die each year. I doubt many expats as before are coming to live in Thailand during this pandemic, some but not the same amount. If the expat community loses 3% a year, by end of next year, the expat community will be down near 10%, near 16% ish if still closed in 2 more. It will take decades to replace the loss of these people.

Many expats keep businesses afloat. I think Thailand should open immediately for all those over 55 who have been vaccinated.

The argument will always be 'if we do not open now, then when' !

Woah, careful there. That doesn't fit the forum narrative.

Allow me to worry about those Thais who don't have luxury cars they can sell. This restaurant owner will most likely get through this pandemic in relative comfort and can rebuild her business.

I felt bad when I read the thread title until I saw they were selling BMW's and Benz's in thailand

You don't need to ask the price the word *** "luxury" *** has been added like with houses roughly double what its worth ????

I’m sure she won’t be walking anywhere and still has access to overpriced cars ! ????????

I know a family in Bangkok they have to sell the Porsche

Well that's a mistake, flogging a dead horse if you will. The clock will be ticking until it runs out and she's back in the same position again but with nothing to sell, then the inevitable will happen and she will be broke.

If she owns the land, buildings and cars, etc the best thing to do is to close it down, fire the lot of them and wait.

I have a feeling there's going to be some leases involved in everything she 'owns'.

Let’s do a deal - she ‘buys a face’ whatever that means and you buy an education - deal ?

I was thinking with the seriously tarnished thaivisa name being binned, and not before time, the anti Thai rhetoric would be managed - seems I was wrong!

They did however take care to vaccinate a high percentage of the population before opening up. That is not the case in Thailand….yet.

Judging by his posts on other threads, I think he means like Mexico and  Brazil, particularly Mexico.

Makes good sense, cars come & cars go, there just material items.

Keep the business going and when good times return you can but another car...

lose the business you lost everything.

My missus polished my pride and joy last night... but I ain't selling that just yet.

I'll give ya 200,000 tb for both the Benz and the Bimmer.  Can pick them up tonight...

Coincidentally, schools broke up for the summer last week. Kids were getting 2 tests a week at school, and none of them were vaccinated.

Now the same unvaccinated kids are getting zero tests a week. It doesn't take a genius to see that reported infections were guaranteed to fall this week.

I think you will find that the cases in the UK have dropped sharply for six consecutive days

You may not be aware but when the kids are on school holidays is the time when viruses spread the most, it's always been this way, going back decades before COVID that is.

They tend to move around a lot at this time of the year...whether that happens this summer or makes any difference whatsoever remains to be seen.
