PHUKET: Phuket officials have banned the sale and consumption of alcohol in all restaurants again, and reinstituted the ban on all “social activities” in an order issued late last night (Aug 2).

The bans came into effect by an order issued by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew yesterday, and are to remain in effect until at least Aug 16.

The order was posted online by the “Phuket info Center”, operated by the Phuke office of the Ministry of Interior, at 10:13pm last night ‒ just 1 hour and 47 minutes before the order came into effect.

I wonder who has investment interests in the hotels being used - that would be an interesting money trail.

Does this include the sandbox hotels?

Don't forget the 7-Eleven. Have to increase CP's income even more.

but tourists are allowed to sit at the beach and swim and drink I expect ...?  or is that a banned ' social activity '  ?     if not, then it's not such a deal breaker.

Geninus @ work - don't disturb ? A dry Sandbox is just a bucket of dust, useless. Can't they put anyone with some brain in charge ?

My favorite member is back, how much did I miss your comments.

No drinking on the beach thanks to your favorite politician.

That was very clear from the beginning. The sandbox does nothing for the many thousands of other small businesses struggling. Sandbox was created by the hotels for the hotels.

The sandbox idea has failed, which is hardly surprising everything considered, but as it's the brainchild of several political phuyai it can't simply be put out of its misery, but must be allowed to linger in a state of zombie limbo until something happens that means it can be cancelled without any loss of face for said phuyai.

From the article: “Do not gather in groups to do activities, socialize, drink alcohol in public areas, beaches, parks,” it added.

"Yes they do. 50 baht for a tin of Singha, with free nuts."

Quote from a person in a Patong ASQ hotel!

From experience, if room service no.

Another flip-flop for the "Sandbox" scheme, which based on past scheme criteria, was ill thought out, poorly timed and based on false hope, fortune telling and toothless edicts.

So you can go to 7-11 , makro etc and buy your booze to sit alone drinking it , as I’m guessing it will be illegal to sit on the beach again while drinking or in the company of another person anywhere ????

Restrictions like that - i.e. ban the sale and consumption of alcohol in all restaurants - will not improve the succes of having real Sandbox-tourists' arriving for a holiday on Phuket, looking forward to a cozy candlelight dinner by the sea while enjoying a glass of wine or two; or a  cold beer or two.

Sorry but I don't have pity on people that come here now to spend their holidays. If they have bad luck they can't even fly back. But we had this already...

But how can that be, Phuket - after all - is completely, professionally and officially "sand boxed" to the nines ............ or not?

Perhaps the headline should read Phuket officials shoot themselves in the foot again!

Do you understand the situation correctly? It is sad that people don't have income anymore. But they should be happy to be still without health problems. There are numbers every day. Let's take todays number of more than 20000. Now multiply this with seven days of a week. Then we have 140000 people. The hospitals cannot handle this anymore. It is a much bigger problem than that some people might not have an income anymore.
