Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul came out on Monday to defend proposed legislation that would grant amnesty to doctors and policy makers in charge of the country’s vaccination plan by saying it was necessary to give doctors ease-of-mind as they deal with the pandemic.

According to a leaked document secured by the Move Forward Party and released on Sunday night, the government aims on passing legislation that would exempt from criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits those that decided the country’s vaccination plan.

In essence that would mean that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul, as well as the doctors that advised them, would be exempt from any future prosecution.

Why are they so nervous?

Because win them or not, they may expect lots of suits to be filed, as are being filed all around the world ...  And they maybe don't want to spend years in court defending suits that may be eventually be thrown out as meritless.

Protests could intensify.............

The Bloomberg article linked above links to a Global Times article which cannot be posted here. Several (30) provincial level and district/city level hospital and health commission people were relieved of their posts. That's as high up as it got.

Certainly they can fabricate enough false evidence to hang the whole tragic fiasco on some designated scapegoats. Make it look like the PM and his merry gang were merely innocent dupes of disloyal troublemakers….then send the lot of treasonous evildoers to prison for ten thousand years. Let the games begin!

This night I had a bad dream of a gang of gangsters ruling Thailand

General consensus TV/AseanNow vox populi: The big shots should be tied to and burned at the stake.

Noted.

It's an old tactic and completly transparent. Make it so it's said to protect others whilst it actually protects us. Doctors working in the state system are ulimately under the duristiction of the state and that is where any blame lays.

Of course he is only thinking of other people! Doctors and such...... His own culpability never entered his pirty head. Me I had nothing t do with it it,

was all the other people around me, I'm just the boss.... I'm not in charge you understand it's not my job.....

What a heinous suggestion....you know we are the guilty party whatever the scenario. Apparently we all arrived at Swampy with suitcases full of plastic trays and empty drinks containers, to dump on the beaches, is an example!

Agree but should exclude Anutin and Prayut. They should be charged with gross mishandling causing unnecessary deaths and ruining the economy

I would share my thoughts but I'd be suspended, so just let it be known I'm not a fan of this.

Good point. If it's a file photo it must be stated as such. If it's not a file photo the should be fined.

I thought they (& all MPs) had already altered the Constitution to grant themselves immunity?
