You've never heard of low-lifes in Western countries beating, raping and murdering old people for fun?

Well not sure it is for fun, however running up behind someone, kicking them in the back ( which could have paralysed them, and running off, is a special kind of cowardly act, of which I have never heard of or seen before

What action will the police take against the car failing to stop at a zebra crossing when there is a pedestrian on it ?

He was lucky in way, could have been stabbed or shot. My wife goes ballistic if a I say or doing anything when driving, she is genuinely scared that some idiot will pull a gun.

The driver was Thai so I think it was a brake failure followed by a brain failure.

The second one seems to be international according to some posters here and their habit protecting their holy cows.

Although the old farang was naive to think a car would stop, and wrong to hit the car (although I have and would again make that same mistake), that Thai 'man' ???? is the scum of the earth to

- attack from behind with his feet (remember how Thais feel about feet)

- attack an old person (remember how Thais respect their own elders)

- run away like a scared soi dog, looking over his shoulder

I really hope that if 'karma' is true, he will get his!

I am sure his loved ones, if they have seen the video, are pleased they are related to such a hero, protecting his car.

I walk with a hiking pole(protection) when I step off the kerb, I hold the pole out in front, and boldly step where farang fear to go,  Try crossing the road in Vietnam, that is where I adopted the hiking pole

How would you react if in , say, Vancouver BC standing right on the kerb on a normal street and a car stopped because they thought you wanted to cross?

I'd know they weren't stopping for me, just looking for a parking spot

And no doubt you have a backup shooter under there in case your opponent is over 5yo.

Iam not American.

At 1 minute there is a car parked on the zebra crossing.  If I had to cross there and walk round the car it might well have got marked.

Vaguely on-topic anecdote.

When I lived in Seoul in the mid 90's I used to wait for a taxi to work just down stream of a large junction with multiple zebras.

In the morning these zebras were controlled by a couple of old ladies equipped with long sticks with red flags, on the end of the sticks were plastic balls very similar to the plastic floats found in water tanks.

These ladies were the school crossing patrol. Once a suitable number of kids were waiting the ladies would thrust the flags out into the traffic which would duly stop allowing the kids to cross.

One morning a driver wasn't quite attentive enough and failed to stop in time. Thwack, thwack, thwack went the plastic ball on the bonnet of his car leaving neat little golf-ball sized dings. Lesson learned!

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

It is not safe to cross the road anywhere in this country. Even if a car stops for you in a zebra crossing, any second motorbikes could be passing at high speed on both sides of the car. I will simply ignore a car stopping to let me cross the road, also in a zebra crossing, unless I have a clear view behind that car.

Why did the old guy not press charges???? So Stupid!!!

This is exactly why the Thai guy will never learn. A Wai and pay some money and that’s it.

That Thai guy would have run into a fist if I had seen that. What a coward!

My grandad about 60 years ago was taking me to the nearest pub even though I was too young to indulge , and a car screached to a stop as my G. crossed the road , he then whacked the bonnet with his walking stick. I don't think a punch up ensued as I kept walking . Funny the things one remembers from so long ago. On the way back he said ' Hang on son I need a draw off . Then proceeded with a forward slash.

I was visiting him in Brixton around the same year and he took me to his local , a Sunday it was and his neighbour was under his car. My G said .' Oi ! Sambo why aren't you  indoors watching the cricket ?' What a character he was.

I'd feel that they were obeying the law by stopping to let me cross and I wouldn't have been at all surprised, as in most western countries (France excluded).

For those of us long term expats having knowledge of the general disrepect for Zebra Crossings and failure of prosecution for infringements, i offer a potential solution for safe zebra crossing: 100m before each side of a zebra crossing, reduce the speed limit to 5k/h. And 10m each side of said crossings signage reinforcing the speed limit. Why is this a good idea? - simple logic, the RTP will have the opportunity to "fine" offenders, let the system work. Will it slow down traffic in the cities? Definitely, because it will only take a minority to adhere, forcing those behind to slow down, will it cause traffic jams, maybe at the city boundaries, but not in the cities.

Thai Man check points:

1. bravely assault someone 30 to 50 years older than self, check

2. bravely assault someone from behind, check

3. bravely run away after the assault, check

4. bravely apologize only when sec camera footage turns up, check

lose-lose-situation for drivers in Thailand. Don't stop at the Zebra crossing and you'll hit the pedestrian. Stop and you'll be hit by the following car ????

I thought zebra crossings were only decoration ????

Pressing charges opens up a whole new world of grief.

The right thing to do, but I can understand why he wouldn't bother.

Just another piece of Thai <deleted>, like some of the negative responders here.

Idiot or not, you do not assault an 80 year old man and you do not kick someone in the back. If you want to show how big your testicles are, you do it face to face, instead of kick in the back and then run back like a little school girl.

Willing to bet all my money, that little girl would not have tried it on someone younger and fit, or he would of had his head kicked in and he knew it. Did not even have enough testicles to face the old man

I don't know why there are Zebra crossings in Thailand as nobody seems to stop and if do stop you might end up with a car, truck, bus ,power walker up your ass.

None, as it is not breaking any law.

I have mentioned this before, because I don't believe that a lot of Thais know the significance of the zebra crossing (as we call it) and that they are supposed to slow down and stop when someone is on it.

Add to that the fact that there are many unlicensed/untrained drivers out there and you have a recipe for disaster.

Many's the time I have been on a zebra crossing and spied a car coming towards me, so have slowed down, only to find that the car totally ignores me and carries on through.

I have had to warn countless visitors here that they should not treat the zebra crossings in Thailand as they treat them in their own country, because drivers here really don't know what to do with them, or give a toss.

I ride a small motorbike and I never stop at zebra crossings. If I did, I'd be mown down by the car behind me.

Nearly happened when I started driving here and started slowing down for the crossing.

These crossings only work if a Thai (hotel employee) first steps out with a small stop sign.

The foreigner did not want to press charges and was later taken home by the Mae Ping police.

Because he was in the wrong -  you can't go around hitting cars!

The Thai guy also was wrong, a total *******

Mrs was amazed in NZ where cars would stop as she approached zebra crossings. Here she does not stop at them claiming the car behind might hit her if she does ????
