Survey – 60% of Thai people believe country not ready to reopen to foreign arrivals

A recent opinion poll shows 60.1% of Thai people surveyed do not agree with the November 1st reopening of Thailand to vaccinated foreign travels without quarantine, saying that the country is not yet ready because less than 70% of the population have been vaccinated.

The survey also shows, however, that 39.9% of those surveyed agree that the November 1st target is timely.

The Suan Dusit Poll, by Suan Dusit University, gauged the opinions of 1,392 people from various groups across the country between October 11th and 14th, after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced, on October 11th, the decision by the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration to open Thai borders to fully-inoculated foreign tourists who pass COVID tests before boarding their flights, initially from 10 low-risk countries, without the need to be quarantined.

Bet they didn't survey the people who work in the travel industry or the entertainment business, or girls who work in bars etc...

  • What a coincidence. Over 60% of potential tourists say it is still too difficult to come to Thailand as well.

Don't really think they have anything to worry about with the just as daft apparently 'Health pass' requirements. Nobody is coming in mass to make any difference to them.

At a guess, a quick poll of the 60.1% of those Thai people surveyed who said "Thailand not ready to reopen" would show that 100% of them were not reliant on international tourism or foreign trade...

Did the hotel and insurance mafia pay for the poll?

True.

Wouldn't expect the great masses at least until Songkran and if/when the kooky authorities come to their senses - by April/May the majority of the population will have satisfied the vaccine quota. Or not.

November through let's say.......February - won't amount to much but a trickle. And again, the brilliant-minded authority experts shoot themselves in the collective feet. Still baffled and never learning.

when tourism accounts for 20% plus of the countries GDP they are all reliant - they just don't have the brains to work it out

If the truth were to be known, 95% of the good Thai folks [of all classes] don't really give a rat's <deleted> one way or the other.

I'm guessing they mustn't say Georgian people over there when referring to their own.

So, just what are the tourist going to do when they get here? What will be open to them? Can they have a glass of wine with their meal? Staying in a hotel in their own country would be much cheaper.

We all know Thai ppl would love to find a way when only the foreign money comes but without the tourists.

So far only the bar girls come up with the best solutions, but even they know that on the long run it doesn't work.

Either the girl screw the tourist, or the girl screw herself.

There is no free meal on the long run.

Can like it or not, millions of Thai ppl's livelihood depend on the tourism industry, directly or indirectly.

If they would be so concerned, there are other points to get answers to, like why Thailand has a vaccine factory but unable to provide sufficient amount to itself still,

Or why the rush to vaccinate the least vulnerable 12-18 group, but not their parents who they actually depend on??

These polls only add to the confusion on top the ever changing proposals, rules, mulls, requirements for travel, that anyhow is likely to keep most foreigners away for yet another high season.

The good news for that 60% in this poll ( that probably made to order to show the desired result they chose...1392 ppl...such a round number. But maybe plays well next week's lottery as lucky number)

It is ironic the photo shows Pattaya's now defunct Go-Go bar - permanently closed.

Georgians maybe????

Considering 78% of them said that the target of 70% of the country should be vaccinated before reopening should be met first, one would ask is the title a little misleading, is their gripe really with the Gov rather than with foreigners entering?

Exactly, international countries are ready to travel, Thailands lack of vaccinations still hamper a safe opening.

That'll be the 40% if truth were told.

I think about 60% f the population of Thailand is xenophobic anyway . They want Thailand for the Thais only .

Thai rak Thai , 55 , we've seen to what that leads ...

But Thai don't rak Thai , remember the clashes in BKK between the yellow and red ( shirts ) ?

Thai , they mostly love themselves only , and they are always right anyway ... they think .

Foreigners are only tolerated for their money .

It is the remaining 40% that are nicer and mostly better educated .

A limited education produces a limited mindset .

They might get a blip during New Year, but that's all.

Nothing much is going to happen until next year.

The danger is not coming from the outside , not by the double vaxxed and triple tested tourists .

Thailand has a vaccine factory... but not the brains to come up with it's own vaccine, it is a sub-contractor for other entities who stipulate where it's production goes.

A bit like the auto industry.

60% of surveyed 1392 believe not ready , NOT 60% of all people.

  • Popular Post

Of course it should not open.

Not while covid cases are rising.

You can lump me into that 60% not ready crowd.  How about pushing that mighty ever rising Baht down a bit more?   Tourists, expats and the export industries all benefit from a screamingly low Baht.
