Thailand is expected to enter the cold season next week and the periods of chilly weather will last longer, 5 to 7 days at a time instead of just 3 or 5 days as in previous years, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

Head of Central Weather Forecast Sub-division, Somkuan Tonjan, said today (Wednesday) that, on October 17th and 18th, a cold front covered the northern and upper north-eastern regions of Thailand, causing the mercury to drop to 21-22oC for a short time.

Before the arrival of the new season next week, however, he said that most parts of the country will experience storms and strong winds, due to the arrival of a cold front which will clash with the hot weather, after which the temperature will drop to below 23oC, hailing the arrival of the cold season.

Tourists from Scandinavia are being asked to 'keep warm', and to avoid being out during the colder nighttime hours. Firewood will be provided for heating purposes if needed.

The one thing that I really love about the cold season is that I can enjoy a really cold shower. I love them they are so stimulating.

Apparently they are also good for boosting the immune system.

The ongoing man made global warming crisis is causing climate change, that is why there are changes in weather patterns.

The result is colder spells that are more extreme, flooding is becoming worse, hotter dry spells elsewhere, wildfire seasons are longer and worse.

It's nice to see you're all "tucking each other in" here.

Oil companies are not drilling so much these days and with the shortages it will be very interesting to see how this plays out.  We are already sure of what will happen this year - next year should be VERY interesting. ????

I'm born above the arctic circle and would have frozen if nobody warned me.

Tracksuit bottoms & fleece courtesy of the old job on standby, along with socks, gloves & woolly hat ????

I wore those in the north of Canada and got to admit when you had to go in minus 20C they were a good idea.

Looking forward to it as the Mrs sleeps naked during winter, all that insulation in the house has paid off keeping it nice and warm, now all I got to do is wait for her to fall asleep.

From context I’d say not so much “out”…

‘Winter Is Coming’
Unless you are waiting for The Winds Of Winter.  Then you may have a long, long wait.  Thank goodness HBO filled in the blanks.  Now I don't care if Winter comes or not.

Yes because of course if it is cooler than normal for one month in one year in one specific part of the world  then global warming must be a myth.

I am glad you agree it is a myth!

I will use my usual yardstick.... winter is here when all the dogs are sporting tatty T-Shirts.

I used look forward to the cold season, now all it seems to bring is haze and high levels of PM 2.5 unfortunately.  Last 2 days in Pattaya have been quite hazy.

Or go with the surgical mask?

Useless for PM 2.5 I believe.

Yes but a PM 2.5 has a valve making it unsuitable for  Covid protection mask... and you make my point actually. By regulation we have to wear a surgical type mask, but if it does not handle 2.5, we need both riding our bikes in town. I still got a large bag of them I bought before Covid.
