  • Is this the Buddhism of Thailand??? Stray dogs are treated better........inhumane and the Government must find out who is responsible, but as usual.... probably the traffickers has hig ranked friends

  • Those other countries tend not to dump 3 dead bodies in a rice plantation along with the injured and the rest of the group then wait for villagers to find them at dawn, call the police and the ambulan

  • This story should be emblazoned across all newspapers in countries where tourism in Thailand is a possibility: THEN something might get done.

Take a deep breath!

We speak about human beings.

That's a tragedy.

You probably never felt hungry or desperate.

I feel for them. They see no other choice than looking to find work somewhere else to feed their families.

Nobody that is paying 1 or 2 months salary to a trafficker is going hungry in Myanmar.

฿7000 = K380813 / K5000 (min day wage) = 2+ months salary

You don't get it.

They don't have the money. They borrow from family and friends.

Once they find a job, they have to pay the money back and help their families as good as they can;

I'm happy for your luxurious live in your electric car etc.

Many would be happy to have some food on the table.

And yet, you are in Thailand, supporting how many Military Junta administrations with your VAT.

A bit hypocritical expecting only the tourist to boycott Thailand on morality.

PEACE OUT

We don't support the Junta led government with our VAT as you think we do.  Not hypocritical when you live in the country, but don't have a voice much like the migrants don't.  Try again.

No, I'm a realist, probably over tax / charge the wife for scooping me up.  I have no faith, and don't depend on the gov't for anything, or anyone for that matter.

Gov'ts aren't there to take care of you (unless circumstances dictate), that you're job.  Gov't are there to protect you, and why there are immigration laws.  Also to protect the immigrants.  Ignore them...

... well sh!t happens, unfortunately.

The best way for realism to work with illegal migrants is to hound the individuals or companies that are hiring them.. But to be realistic that will not happen .

The same is happening all over the world . Thailand is no exception

The solution to the ones entering illegally is simple.

At the moment, they arrest them. Check them for Covid. Incarcerate them and then send them back.

Of all of the recent migrants, NONE have had Covid.

So, register them. Give them temporary papers and let them work in a controlled environment.

After a probation period, make their papers more permanent.

Never gonna happen; look how many years a lot of us Ex Pat's have been here pouring money into the country,Thai Banks holding huge sums of our money and still we are treated poorly and will never be given 'more permanent papers' but have to do annual 'Extensions', which are not even 'Visa's' and turn up every 90 days to 'Report' our continued presence by one means or another.

The Xenophobic minds of the Thai Elite; either in Uniform or without only ever want any Foreigners here for one of two reasons......to use them as Slaves or extract money from them !

With due respect, may I make reference to today's Cambodian press regarding migrants in Thailand  (7 November 2021):-

"Five out of 13 imported cases of COVID-19 reported in Thailand had arrived from Cambodia. The remaining were from eight other countries, including one each from Turkey, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Malaysia and Myanmar and two from France"

https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50966106/five-from-cambodia-tested-positive-for-covid-19-in-thailand-even-as-hundreds-get-deported/

I think there should be 7 other countries, not 8 as stated and apart from Burma, the other countries may refer to tourists rather than migrants - but I might be wrong.

Horrific..... but lacking in details.

People trafficking in Thailand is rife...

It should be placed at the highest level and dealt with severely by all international bodies.

Such a travesty. Many enter Thailand this way because of the need for work. They save and borrow from family who have little to get here and then this happens.  The Thai government does nothing to protect migrants either.

Prawit says he will order this to stop... just like Prayut said he will stop corruption.

Thailand is at the forefront of people trafficking and it needs to go to the top of every watch list.

I've had my share of 'down & out' times.  Could easily went the illegal route, but weighed the risk.   There plenty in Myanmar got dealt the same hand or worst, and excel without putting themselves at risk.

That's world wide.  Only difference is people work for it, instead of wallowing in their despair.  I'm sure there's plenty of middle class in Myanmar, that started out dirt poor.  Again, that's worldwide.

Somehow they are smart enough, and raise money to do something illegal, but can't manage to use that same initiative to do something legally productive at home.  Does make you wonder.  Crossing over to Thailand, is no small feat.

Thanks for sharing with us your expertise about these  criminals from Burma. Just like all those losers from North Korea who cross over into China illegally.. Their pathetic excuse is that they are ruled by a brutal, murderous government that cares nothing about them and prefers to let hundreds of thousands starve to death rather than relinquish the tiniest bit of control.

Why don't these Burmese losers just stay home and buckle down to work and make something of themselves?

Poor choice is more like it.

The only thing that went wrong is, they got in an accident.  Or they'd just be more immigrants, keeping the wages low in Thailand.

When news spreads back home of what happen, maybe that will deter others from the same, doubtful.

Why do people try to justify, illegal immigration, OUTSIDE of their home country, when they are opposed to illegal immigration in the home country.

Are you totally out of your mind? Where are we justifying illegal immigration. What you seem to miss is that they actually are very unaware, and many times duped.

We are talking about people in poor countries that are very poor, from poor families that have what you would say, zero education. What do you mean with age of information? You must be educated to use that tool! Just because they have mobile phones with internet does not make them smarter. Rather dumber, because they are just chatting, looking at TikTok and Facebook. Maybe playing music on Youtube.

They also use their phones to keep in close contact with family and friends, but they are also uneducated and unaware, so that will not help in this case.

No, most of them borrow the money, with the promise to pay back more after they are promised big salaries.

Think some of y'all are confusing these 'looking for better pay' illegal immigrants, for the 'asylum / get shot on sight / karen' refugees.  Big difference.

And seriously, they have smartphones but are uneducated and don't know how to use them ...

...  call me insensitive, but damn, that was a bit racist.

They chose to break the 'immigration law'  ...  1st mistake

They chose to break the 'driving law', riding in the back of a pick up ... 2nd mistake

Follow the laws designed to protect you, common sense, and they'd still be at home waiting for dinner.  Instead, a few at the morgue, and few more in detention.  Choices ...  UP2U

If it wasn't a 'dead migrant workers dumped rubber plantation' headliner, it wouldn't be news.  Simply a MVA, w/ casualties.  Happens every day here.  Probably once a month with folks in back of a P/U.

PEACE OUT ... again ????

Yes you have zero compassion and are an example of exactly what is wrong with the system in Thailand

Wrong with the system, but not necessarily the people.

The savage attitude, evinced in the post to which you have replied, is nothing to do with any "system".

It definitely is a "people" problem.

what a silly response,  the story is about Thailand ...  not US or anywhere else.

They knew they were doing something illegal, that always comes with risks.  There is nobody to blame but themselves.

Is there anyone who doesn't know the dangers of partaking in human trafficking / illegal immigration.

You make your choices in life, you live with them.

Is nothing to do with my compassion.  All the boo hoo'ers,  are you happy your country has immigration laws, and get mad when people ignore them.  Same same, not different.

do you not understand that Myanmar is pretty much at civil war, I dont believe the average person is able to legally leave Myanmar at this time.

I think if I was in the same position as these people I would be doing exactly the same thing, whatever it takes to get to a safe place.

This is the bit that Thailand ignores.

They are refugees.

They know that Thailand will just send them back so they have no choice but to escape from Burma illegally. (Earning a few bob helps as there is no financial cushion in Thailand.)

Shame on you Prayut.

Thailand cannot possibly handle refugees from Burma, a de facto failed state, in effective civil war, with 54 million pop.Any indication that it would stupidly try would literally open the floodgates.

I don’t know where you source your information from but I live in the North of Chiang Mai Province and some of the Burmese apprehended in the last week or so did test positive for Covid.

It's a sad day for humanity when we treat humans like this - irrespective of the country or nationality.

Agree - and the comments from some of the posters in this topic shows why the world is this way.

Brag about the house they live in, the car they drive, ...

Meanwhile ignore the plight of refugees from a country at war with its own people.

Try starving - or better yet - try watching your children starve. See what this drives you to do.

Your in Thailand where logic and common sense does not prevail.

Conveniently overlooking the mass migration of desperate souls trying to get into Europe from Africa, the middle east and even beyond.

I feel compassion when people die, get injured, get dealt a bad hand.  Yes, it sucks they died, but there are better ways.  They paid money ... so they weren't that down & out.   The ones walking across the border, not using traffickers, I have more compassion for.

They made choices, obviously this time, it turned out bad.  This is one of the reason why the laws are there.  To protect people from themselves, not just the legal workers who get paid less.

Illegal immigration / human trafficking is high risk ... does anyone not know that ???

That uncommon common sense.

Even if they entered legally, they would still be risking there lives with a Thai driver, taking a bend down hill. init
