Thai media Manager said they had obtained video evidence of serious infractions of the Covid regulations in a hotel bar in the Nimmanhemin area of downtown Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand.

They published many still pictures of the all night drinking parties despite the province still having a bad on alcohol and reporting 300-400 Covid cases daily.

They pulled no punches saying that the clientele of the bar were well-heeled or Hi-So locals including politicians and civil servants.

It was one of many bars in the nightlife area and all over Chiang Mai that were brazenly flouting the Covid rules, laws and protocols.

At this one it was really just a front for prostitution and was set up like a restaurant to fool the authorities.

They reported that some customers were frolicking in the hotel pool with scantily clad bargirls.

The story was reminiscent of scandalous stories from nightclubs in the Thong Lo area of Bangkok earlier in the year in which leading politicians and senior officials were caught flouting the rules leading to the beginning of a devastating wave of Covid in April, notes ASEAN NOW.

  • But isn't it OK if you are Hi So or a government official? Why have the positions if no additional benefits?

  • We know where this one is heading too !

  • I'm so glad an upstanding citizen (competitor bar owner) did their civic duty (grassed) to the police (who already have this weeks protection money). I am sure they will take meaningful action (none).

Same in 'Uptown' area's; a new outside bar has just been built about 2km away from Central Hang Dong and they are swilling from early evening until the wee hours.  Not Hi So's but Locals including the Local Cops swilling Whisky for hours on end, all in plain view of anyone passing.

Hi So wearing a ball cap and tshirt. Ya right.  And the pretty white purse strung over his shoulder. Sheesh.

Stop with all this nonsense and reopen any provincinal district with > 70% vaccination.

Just fully legalize ganja and these Hi-So/Lo-So's will have an alternative to partying like animals.

We dig the buzz.

It's ok, they weren't foreigners who have gone through the circus of paperwork and testing. Nothing to see here, move along.

Not a chance in the “do-you-know-who-I-am” country.

Ir's just the beginning of the alcohol rebellion, when many bars will begin serving alcohol for their survival, and their staffs survival, People have to eat!

Was at one of the golf clubs at Chiang Mai a few weeks ago when the police were holding a golf tournament. Music played loud on the terrace with lots of booze being served

No comment and same same in all countries, still no comment.

The WSJ just published a story that in 1921 after Prohibition (of alcohol) entered the Constitution, the WCTU considered targeting smoking, even tobacco. They were also against women wearing lipstick. Didn't go over well with younger women with short hairdos and loose dresses with no corsets!

In the Bangkok hotels and restaurants to which I have been they have he decency to serve alcohol in a tea pot and let you drink it out of a tea cup.
