My sympathies lie with the Ukrainian's stranded here first. They are having their homes flattened and may not have anything to go back to.

  • Well, if there's any justice in the world, sanctions against Russia should be increased further, and remain for a very, very long time ... so the affected "innocent Russians" better get used to it, an

  • Only Russians can take care of their "Putin" problem...sanctions will not ultimately hurt people with net worths in the tens of billions. Seize 80% of their assets and they are still billionaires.....

I know it’s not really their fault, but hard to feel much sympathy given what’s happening and certainly some in Thailand will be nationalist and support that maniac. Hopefully Russia will be put down so much that eventually some of those with half an ounce of compassion and empathy will take out the maniac and his band of thugs. The Russian gov needs to join the human race, as do some unmentioned others.

Don´t come to Thailand and complain. Talk to Putin.

to the "only Russians can take care of Putin" / "Tell it to Putin" crowd, I've answered here:

also you should google what happened to Boris Nemtsov after he publicly criticized the Crimean incident.

Why don't these stranded Russians in Thailand publicly denounce what their leader does?

because they have families/businesses/assets to return to. Those who have no ties to Russia except the passport usually do denounce what "their" leader does (its not actually their as they did not elect him)

But experts say that sanctions won’t be able to cripple the Kremlin enough to end the conflict.

Sanctions are the only non-violent way for the world to force the population of Russia to oust their own leader.

It would be a good thing if it got so bad for them that soi dogs started disappearing in my view guilty by association ????

they are facing discrimination.

Well, they voted for Putin, they enjoyed all benefits, they tolerate his cruel wars, they did not demonstrate against it as eg Nawalny.

Now Russians are the outcasts or Pariahs in our world.

Don't complain!????

How's that working out for North Korea?

We can no longer live a normal life”

Tell that to the people of Ukraine

I don't think the inhabitants of Mariupol 'Can live a normal life' either.

The Russians should be complaining to their embassy about their sudden predicament. Putin needs sustained pressure from decent Russians who don't support this attack on Ukraine. As for the pro Putin Russians.....well be careful about who you are whining too.

Let us hope that Ukraine gets some relief soon.

Many other country has fight from own freedom! Many other country has suffer from civil war! They have do that to get democracy! Russia has never been democracy nation! People can make nation not leader's on it! If people follow they leader like dog's, leader's will treat you like one's!

Which is still a possibility in Thailand with their present situation.

  • Popular Post

We really shouldn't hate them just because of their passport.

That plays right into paranoid Putin's hand.

Why feel sorry for Russians?

Because individual citizens were't the cause of it?

The normal Russian citizens should see the situation for what it is and stand up to Putin.  However, the ones living in Russia don't see the facts as they are only fed the lies and propaganda by Putin.  The only way to topple Putin is from within the country and that is unlikely right now.

  • Popular Post

Tough luck if you are Russian.

Same for people from my country, the UK. If the UK comes unstuck one day, then we can only blame those who voted for idiots like Boris Johnson to lead the country.

Don't worry Russians, Thailand is joining your side.

When they close fb, and other social media, treathning with jail up to 15 years for spreading the truth about the war, and much more should wake up even the worst Putin fanatics that something is wrong, so no excuse there

sad situation for many but certainly the majority of nations have condemned the unilateral invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Main concern and support for the citizens of Ukraine. Yes, saddened about the position of Russians caught up in the worsening economic punishment but I am the bearer of more bad news. There is a fair chance that Russian citizens will be paying for their country's actions for a long time. War reparations on the back of the sanctions are not a new idea .... Continue the human and property damage and the costs will only continue to rise.

Not ALL. There are decent brave Russians who oppose Putin and his criminal corrupt regime. Oppositions leader Alexei Navalny in Jail and his followers are being targeted and oppressed. Anti Putin men are chased abroad and assassinated with Polonium (Alexander Litvinenko) or Nerve gas agent (Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury -England).

I know Russian tourists have never been liked by most western expats but there are decent people among them and should not label them all as pro Putin.

Agreed not all.

But unfortunately plenty are.

As an American with our trumpist / tucker carlson problem I can't throw stones.

If millions of Russians would show that they disagree with Putin's dictatorships there will be overflowing jails.

But there are only a few brave Russians. Not enough for a change.

So No Mercy for those who are stranded.

A train ticket to Burma or China doesn't cost much.

Maybe we should start a go-fund them campaign for buying tickets.

But all you can see in Russia or just stranded.

Because the brave ones you would not see.........they are jailed.

Maybe some of them do. I don't know any so I couldn't say. If they don't there may be reasons. Perhaps they have family or other connections in Russia which could be put at risk if they say the wrong things. Its not a normal democratic country unfortunately.
