Way I look at it is like this

Poll.

What country would you most like to visit - Thailand

Which country would you be most unlikely to visit again - Thailand

Yes, there are some nice , high class resorts for the rich folk, but after that its pretty 'meh'.

As a citizen of one of the top 10 cities in the world, I can assure anyone who's read this far that my city, beset with the problems of homelessness (sorry, of the "unhoused"), and with police underfunding, and with mindless construction of impossibly high condo buildings, is blushing (if cities could blush) at this undeserved ranking.

What's special about Thailand nothing,

20-30 years ago yes. now it's old hat.

And Thailand comes in at 20 and 48 of the best hotels, doesn't rate for the best airport or best train, althought the Rosewood in Phuket does manage 11 out of 50 best resorts.

Wait a second, Japan is ranked above Thailand, but hasn't even been open to tourists until a few weeks ago? That in itself makes me question this ranking.

I know of a guy on the Lower east side that ranked it as number two..

I know a lot of posters here live very sheltered, unhappy, isolated lives in rural villages that they hate, but seriously who hasn't heard of Conde Nast??  Heard of Vogue?  The New Yorker?  GQ? Vanity Fair?  All Conde Nast publications.

Or did you mean you've never heard of Japan?

Conde Nast Traveller has 5 million subscribers.  Try again.

It is targeted at the luxury, experienced and well heeled traveller which is why the bitter people on this forum have never heard of it.

You haven't missed much.  I used to be in media and the Conde Nast sales team were arrogant and self centered.  They said their reader were peerless.  I always remember them when I read one of their "Reader Choice Awards".  I wonder how much $ these resorts paid in advertising in their magazine.  As they say, Follow the money.

Whenever any of these things come out the sad, lonely, self hating bunch always come crawling out saying it was paid for by TAT, it is wrong, Thailand is a cess pit and they hate it, Mexico is better, blah blah.  It is very sad, but also quite amusing to watch, the self loathing is quite something to behold.

Like it or not Thailand is an amazing country that millions and millions of people love for many reasons.  Remember that feeling you had on your first trip here?  That's what people get even today when they visit.  Your own pitiful life in a village you hate, full of people you despise, and your life filled with bitterness doesn't change that fact.  Amazing country, amazing people, amazing resorts, hotels and hospitality.

Now, back to the whingers, let's watch them come out with all the cliches.  Then tomorrow there will be a new topic where they can post the same again.

But the most important news are that the citizens of Lapland east has voted Thai food to be the best food they ever had...
