Pattaya Traffic Police took firm action against defiant Arab groups on Soi Pattaya Second Road, an area notorious for their gatherings. Lieutenant Colonel Arut Sapan, head of Pattaya City Traffic Police, deployed forces to discipline unruly drivers and operators.

The area frequently witnessed gatherings of Arab tourists revving their engines and causing disturbances to the public. The police issued warnings and public announcements to rental car operators, urging them to cooperate in preventing such behavior and finding solutions to curb the impact on society, reported Siam Rath.

Lieutenant Colonel Arut Sapan emphasized that they had already implemented disciplinary measures, but due to recent incidents, they increased personnel to apprehend offenders.

The summonses were divided into two categories: the first for drivers, charged with offenses such as not wearing helmets, driving without a license, and modifying their vehicles for loud noises.

The second summons targeted rental car operators or vehicle owners who would face a fine of 2,000 baht without exceptions.

The police vowed to continue such actions to educate Arab tourists about Thai laws and apprehend any misbehavior in the future, having already captured ten motorcycles and two modified vehicles during this operation.

their reaction was always the same: 'Oh, they are not real Muslims, because Muslims would not have such bad behaviors.

I heard the same comment from Arab Muslims, referring to Asian Muslims like Malaysian, Indonesian. Once from a guy who liked to present himself as particularly pious (nice guy in most ways). Struck me as not his decision, and somewhat xenophobic.

They should also have a look at all the noisy cars and motorbikes speeding up and down Thappraya road all night.

There are a few gantries, with all sorts of equipment mounted on them, over Thappray road near the Pratumnak crossing. I thought these were there to monitor traffic and speed but they are obviously there just for decoration

A group of them on third road last night 11 pm. Very young, maybe 18-20. To call them men, is a far stretch.

Revving their PCX small motorcycles, on red light, shouting  and laughing.

Police, nowhere to be seen, as usual.

Or an exception can be made for a donation to The Secret Policeman's Ball.

Good news, at last they(RTP) are seemingly doing something!

  • Popular Post

are the Police actually trying to stop the problem or....have they simply found a new revenue source? I hope it is the former.

Bangkok had a similar problem a few years ago with Nigerian freelancers (and their pimps). The Police did eventually get rid of 95% of them but with the walkers the Thai girls and bar owners were the ones being hit by the sheer number of them and so the RTP had little choice BUT to act if they wanted to keep collecting their T money. These arab youths...........the problem with them is a lack of respect for anyone or anything. Chuck a few of them out as an example and if that doesn't work find out who the parents are and sting them for a huge fine......then let the parents deal with their own kids.

Parents deal with their own kids? You are joking. The reason they are like this is because they never dealt with them when raising them.

Are they so tone deaf they don’t see anything racist in their “targeting”?

the offense requires policing, the nationality of the offender is irrelevant.

It is important to remember that this is not an "Arab" problem, it is an idiot problem. No problem with enforcing the rules for everyone. Rental places that provide vehicles without licenses need to be closed. People driving without proper credentials need to be deported. Not just Arabs, everyone.

Wait, wait, wait....I thought the retired expats were the most dangerous group in Pattaya and Thailand.?

Well they sure as hell aren't citizens...

Don't be racist is the rule of thumb here. Treat them the same as you would any other ignorant hooligans and kick them out the country

Kuwaiti's and Saudis could well fall into the category of unruly as they believe they are too important to obey rules. Not all but most just to clarify

Forget the religion bit, it is a known fact that the males of arab counties, are given freedom to express themselves and do anything the family finances will allow, such as have pently of female/ drinking fun while studying or holidaying abroad, but, remember not to S..t on your own doorstep or bring any non-arab items or behaviour back. For them at present it is their summer break, same as the USA So, treat them as unruley young men as with any other country. Charge and fine them for breaking the law of the land, if they showed respect, they would not come under the gazes of the police. Note, how few if any Arab females are with them, plus most working Thai gals will be steering well clear from them, They act nearly as bad as the Indians, they will not pay, but, will want to play, only the foolish gals will think theres a chance, because they are younger, but, they need to be informed.

Ok, remember 9/11 and watch "Dupont Lajoie".

Must admit that there was I time where I was also peed off with Arabs; when I had to work  on the inventory of hardware and ordinance they had left behind in the Sinai.

If they really want to stop this behavior, the cops should impound and sell the bikes.  Bikes impounded and sold under some nuisance/public safety bylaw.  No bikes and the problem goes away.  Could be a good money earner too.

I think the point to be made is - Thai police can really get serious, (aka imaginative) if they want to: fine them 20k for being a public nuisance; or, the old ''what's this joint I found in your possession'' trick.  anything to stick them in the slammer, in order to force the parents to cough up the penalty. after all, the law is ''bad out good in'' . 99% of tourists, together with us retirees, live here peacefully and contribute to society. Just get rid of these bums.

And to get their motorcycles back or pay the fine, they have to pay a 2000baht fine and two 55 gal. barrels of crude.
