Well that aint gonna  happen with plod behaving like that. That said what a terrible despicable bunch drinking together, lock em up, throw away the key, that will teach em.????????????????????

  • Ok. Irrespective of my beliefs , law is the law, so if one breaks it then tough luck . But problem I have is why make arrests and such a fuss. This is not criminal offence . So you caught them breakin

  • No doubt by now this article has already been sent to the BBC and others' news sites.

Okay, they were breaking the law, I get it. But how is that supposed to work with attracting tourists in a few short months (according to their plans)?

If a tourist cannot even hang out for drinks, what's the point of going on a vacation?

When did having a beer with a friend become ‘alcoholism’ ?????

A bit sanctimonious with these ‘non-drinking / non gathering’ times comment don’t you think?

Are you telling us you have not had a drink and not met up with any friends for the past 3 or 4 months ????

There are no regulations against having friends round for dinner and beers (outside of Phuket), the only difference is that this was done publicly.

Wonderful local police recruiting for Dads Army. Hope they have been taken to Bophut Police Station for Covid vaccinations. Expect the Bar Owner was trying to earn pittance for her next meal

congregating promulgated

I am still trying to figure out the present and past tenses and meaning of this. Its sounds like a medical procedure.

Wait until it’s spread all over the international newspapers there will be zero tourists in Samui

would it not be better to allow people to drink outside in the open air (with some rules) than doing it in confined spaces like bars behind closed shutters with no ventilation

How about they just follow the rules for a while during a pandemic.

Not surprisingly they come from the same place where the current B117 originated that caused 41 deaths here today.

The selfishness and arrogance and sense of entitlement from some people astounds me.

Deport and blacklist.

Karma really. But are there any tourists there anyway currently, other than domestic tourists ?

You don't really think that the Thais are wanting to attract these types on the old aged pension.

They don't hide the fact they are after quality tourists.

Would it be different if it was 3 young men drinking beer?  An agest comment, perhaps?

The police said they had to enforce the law.

It's a selective reflex.

True, but that doesn't change what I wrote. Why would a "quality tourist" come to Thailand while these laws are in place? They wouldn't want to hide their champagne in a coffee mug, would they?

I bet the lady in the "beauty salon" was selling the alcohol as well.

Unlike Bangkok where the BIB share a drink in the few bars that are open

I am sure that a lot of the Brits remember when you could not get a drink in the afternoon in England, and if pubs were caught serving "afters" they were hauled in front of a judge and fined, or even had their licences revoked. This often also made the local press.

Get a sense of perspective guys and at least allow a third world country to act as the UK did not so long ago.

The old drunken western sexpats with young tattoed bargirls actually turn off most families and couples.

They find it ugly and pitiful. Up to them if they need to pay for sex, but the way they parade around in public together as if they are teenagers is off.

Never see them carrying on  like that in western countries. It is absurd.

A bit of discretion would go a long way.

Exempt no but common sence should prevail in these uncertain times .a quick reminder and a stern warning and sent home would of suffice plus that would go a long way with police and people bonding.now it's all over the news and social media .not sent out the right vibes for future tourism has it

Common sense would be not to go to a bar drinking but no, these old farts thought they were above the law, "som nam na" Well done to plod for doing their job, if everyone thought they would get away with only "a stern warning" can you imagine how many more fools would be out drinking?

If people are that desperate for alcohol they need to check in to a rehab centre ????????

What they are after and what they get is not necessarily the same. Beggars aren't choosers..

you devil master Peter

????????????????????????

They broke the law.
why is this even newsworthy?

Was told they got 1 year probation and 10k fine

Here we are more than 12 months in and people are still moaning about the rules, temporary or not. And one wonders why authorities ‘treat us like children’ ????

Now the real question is after they convict these people and throw them in jail, do they release them because of the Covid 19 that is spreading in the prisons.

They have been in Samui for years nothing to o with UK variant Mr. do-gooder i suppose you have never done one thing wrong yourself.

A plan for the coppers to line their pockets..pose as local thais and invite rich farang to drink with them

How would that have worked, then?   The Britons were arrested with one Thai, the owner of the bar in which they were drinking.    The other Thais were arrested in a beauty salon with no connection to the Britons.

These old Dinosaurs  cause everybody Grief by their drunken stupidity
