BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) – The Food and Drug Administration has signed a contract to purchase five million doses of Moderna vaccine with Zuellig Pharma.

Thailand will get the first batch of Moderna vaccine in the fourth quarter of this year as earlier scheduled.

Meanwhie, Apisamai Srirangsan, assistant spokeswoman of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said that the CCSA meeting agreed that 1.5 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine donated by the US would be administered on frontline medical personnel and health workers, elderly people, foreigners with chronic diseases and Thais in need of inoculation before travelling overseas.

How many more times are they going to announce this Moderna deal? These days it’s just embarrassing to hear about it again. We get it. 5 mil doses, December. Or in other words, too little, too late.

The question to ask at the end of the day is why did they not sign contracts awhile ago, and why did they drag their feet while laying blame on the OAG for having a final review before it could be signed. They do look so proud and smug in the Photo OP don't they.  Why is no one pointing at the signed document....

wait, they suppose to sign it the last Monday.

Gen Prayuth has spoken to them personally, at face to face meeting and shaking hands photo opportunity, on 19th April, just after coming back from his extended songran hooliday and did promise an immediate action, ie order.

That was over 3 months ago.

If signed and ordered on that day, this vax had a chance to be already in Thailand, even in initial, small quantities, just for medics

Too little too late and just recycled news. The real headline is: there might be some Moderna vaccine here in 6 months. There won't be enough and it probably won't work with new variants.

In other news, the chocolate ration has been increased from three grams to two grams...

Meanwhile, Romania has sold 1.1 million unused Pfizer vaccines to Denmark, a deal which came up out of pure chance, according to Denmark's ambassador in Romania.

I think, THAI government should contact foreign embassies, perhaps Israel?

Why has it taken so long to sign this contract..... This Government is to slow to catch a cold....

And I will wait until they are delivered onto Thailands shore before I will beleave it...

They need these vaccines now - not in 4-5 months !

fake vaccine in the works yet ( at a price per jab) ?

Gouge per jab.

At least the Government is trying to obtain vaccines and must continue as this appears to be the only way out of the Pandemic. True better late than never but no one anticipated the virus would reappear so strongly. Australia and New Zealand have controlled the viras by isolating themselves but the viras now proving it recognises no borders they are both behind with their vaccination programmes but they may be in the same position as Thailand in the coming months.

Don't worry soon it will be raining cats and dogs with all the western vaccines. Than you will wake up with the virus.

More unanswered questions than answers:

• How many shots will the Thai Red Cross siphon off before the prepaid Moderna becomes available?

• How many prepaid Moderna accounts through the private hospitals?

• Given the increased interest in Moderna, and the increasing caseload, why didn’t they order 10 million shots, or more?

• Why did this take so damned long?

Show as many photo ops as you like of signing contracts daily , but the fact is you don’t have the required vaccines and won’t have for a long time !

Sat about going oh look how great our low statistics are and didn’t think ahead when the proverbial hit the fan and they actually started testing people !! ????

No, its the Sinovac that doesn't work.

mRNA vaccines are very effective against the Delta variant.

Moderna will only be available to the private hospitals and smart people who paid in advance.

Cut the fanfare, cut the BS publicity stunt... just get the vaccines in the country and into people.

Unbelievable it has taken this long to finally get the contract signed.  Just way too slow on everything having to do with vaccines.  Cue up the next series of endless stories on 'Moderna will be arriving___________'. (Fill in a changing date for the next 3 to 4 months.)

I got the moderna and so far so good. I been to places where confirmed cases were during the same time range and so far my bi weekly covid swab tests were all negative. And 90% of the cases of where I am are the Delta variant. There are a number of breakthrough cases here though but nothing severe.

I think there are a number of reason, the delay was so they could push for the AZ as the main vaccine to be issue but the problem  they couldn't meet production isn't that a big surprise?

Then the delay was most likely to make sure those at the top got enough of a cut from the deal?  ???? OAG just happen to be the scrape goat of the day.  Then you got an article they couldn't sign the deal because the government didn't have the funds available to sign thus the reason they ask the private hospital to take money up front.

The photo op is shameful how does one screw things up then act if it never happened?????

Once the Army and various other favoured groups have had theirs.

I think a lot of smart people who paid up front are going to end up out of pocket and without a vaccine.

Point 3 you've outlined is in my opinion the most relevant, why order such a small amount, while they've got their cheque book out then at least order a decent number even if they're not delivered until next year, the same with that order they finally contracted for 20 million Pfizer. Why only 20 million?

I really hope you are correct but, as these people change their minds more often than the weather changes in the UK, I'm not holding my breath.
