PHUKET: The body of a 57-year-old Swiss woman who is believed to have been raped and murdered was found in a creekbed near the Ao Yon Waterfall in Wichit, on Phuket’s east coast, yesterday afternoon (Aug 5).

Region 8 Police Commander Lt Gen Kitrat Panpetch held a special press conference at Wichit Police Station last night and confirmed that the woman had arrived on the island on July 13.

The woman’s body was found by Nattapong Sridum, 31, a local resident in Wichit.

From the article in the link: “Gen Suwat will travel to the area tomorrow [Aug 6] to monitor the progress of the case by himself,”

Just hope he follows the rules of the sandbox system as well as check all the criteria for enter.

R.I.P.

Thats not a good start, the percentage of real tourists that have arrived in Phuket from the 1st July on the Sandbox scheme is small, to have one of them murdered is not a good sign, particularly when its a lone female who had also been raped first.

Terrible news for the family and lets hope her ordeal and fate will lead to swift action by the police.

Seems, that the poor lady was a politician og politically involved in Switzerland.

With the Island in lockdown it shouldn't take long to track her movements and and find the murderer.

They prob gonna blame a Myanmar fisherman ...

Yes it isn't good , but she isn't the 1st and unfortunate not gonna be last also . The islands are not the safest of places around , Koh Tao anyone....

Any Burmese here with tracking apps will be very worried right now.

It is not only the virus that is threat to 'Sandbox ' tourists ...

Being a woman , she should not travel alone , even around the island ... sickos around everywhere .

I've met many women who came to Phuket by themselves. Some of them were on holiday, many of them found jobs, partners, and ended up becoming part of the community - both farang and local.

The amount of foreigners murdered in Phuket is tiny - to have it happen to a lone woman who could have been one of my friends is sickening.

All over the morning news now, and it seems that the story has also made the mainstream International news as a story.  Unfortunately not the news that Thailand or Phuket needed at this point in time especially since she was a tourist.

True , shouldn't be happening , but people doing this do not think . They do not think about not many tourists right now , they do not think about bad reviews , they do not think about tomorrow , basically , they don't care . It's sad , and i do feel bad about her , but some people are just bad people .

DNA evidence can be brought up years later. The perpetrator will have a lifetime of worry even if they are not found.

A friend of mine got pushed through a shop window and thought little of it until several years later he got charged over it after being stopped for drink driving and a DNA test was done that matched his blood on the broken glass.

And yes , you can push anybody towards murder , but most aren't like that . Most people do nothing more then a speed limit or alcohol limit , stealing and killing are different kind of people most of the times unfortunate .

If he was pushed through ( presumably by another individual) why was he charged?

RIP

I wonder how far she was from her hotel

if this is a remote area could be the work of a taxi driver or similar

anybody know the area she was found

on Ao Yon Waterfall is a rather hidden swimming hole around 3.6 km east of the Kao Khad View Point. ... Ton Ao Yon Waterfall has several drop pools that are big enough to bathe in. Since many people skip this spot in favour of Phuket's more popular waterfalls, you'll probably have the entire area to yourself.

Would it surprise anyone if it was a Phuket taxi driver? And the case is never solved?

Yes, the resort ("The Moorings", it's a collection of bungalows) is very close.   Probably no more than 800 metres or so as the crow flies.
