A top brass policeman of the rank of major general is under investigation for smuggling illicit liquor on an official RTP flight.

The Office of the National Anti-Corruption commission suggest it is part of a wider operation involving others.

It is the latest scandal to hit the Royal Thai Police after a series of damaging cases being aired almost daily in the Thai media.

Many levels of police rank could be involved, suggested Daily News.

A post on the Facebook page of "Patibatkan Ma Fao Ban" said that two aircraft - a CN235-220M and a Falcon 2000 - had been ferrying untaxed beer and spirits from Hat Yai in the south to Bangkok from 2018 to 2020.

Two senior officers were involved, it was claimed but a NACC investigation stalled as the officers rose through the ranks.

The police's own regulatory authority are also now involved in the investigation said Daily News.

Ah brought in illegal contraband that had probably been smuggled across the border for personal gain and use in his own possible establishment since Thailand will open to the world starting in October.  He is in some deep doo-doo and will be moved to an inactive post, maybe scrubbing toilets.....

Nice pun of "Barrel", one wonders how long it has been seasoning.

In reality, nothing will be done only "seen to be doing" for the media.

It's going to be a difficult one for the NACC to deal with, maybe need a bigger carpet !

There does not one week go by without another scandal involving this so-called "law enforcement agency".

yet when a member or the general public blows the whistle or merely points out that the entire  apparatus is rotten to the core, they are being prosecuted and slapped with draconian punishments for "damaging the reputation of the police". Go figure.

So... who is going to investigate this supposed "anti-corruption body"? Somebody has been paid off for sure for "stalling".

the stories we hear about are just tip of the iceberg

this one will soon gone into the black hole of an investigating committee

they will take a few months to invent with what the "misunderstanding" was

and all will be well...

If it is his own establishment, and he is a senior policeman then it is very probable that it has remained open for business throughout the closedown, like very many such "connected" establishments.

I barely know anything about Thailand, but even I know about police being involved in all sorts of illicit activity, from running bars that are officially closed to operating live-streaming with ladies who apparently don’t care about Covid.

Imagine Thai citizens who see this every day.

And, of course, everyone knows that many transgressions can be wiped clean for some amount of baht, just the cost of doing business.

''Thai police helicopter allegedly used to smuggle bootleg liquor''

Strange headline. Both the CN235-220M and a Falcon 2000 are fixed wing aircraft.

My wife has a cousin that's a mia noi for a high ranking army officer and he has a side business besides the military and let's just say his side business does very well

Now that's some strong bootleg liquor there for you. What more proof do you need?

????

I used to get occasional cases of cheap Penfold's wine when I worked in Hat Yai. Smuggled over the border from MY. Nice little touch, but obviously nowhere near RTP bigboy league. ????

Any one surprise here? even the word Amazing is too worn out to describe such story...

And the officers involved were flown out via chopper,  to an inactive post.

The swat team commander that lives opposite me has a drinking party every night except last night by spooky coincidence maybe their supply has  been cut off  ????

Don't know why it matters, but I for one would like some idea of the quantities involved. Enough for 20 police owned clubs in Bangkok, all the time? Or someone's house parties?

As we all know, there are many other blatant crimes involving the RTP, so why them?

someone forgot to kick a sufficiently fat brown envelope up the ranks

Army, police, same same. I've yet to see one single high ranking military/police officer that's had to declare his assets not being a multi millionaire. And that's the declared assets so one can only guess which of the following explanations is correct:

1. They have to be rich to be allowed to become a high ranking officer.

2. They all have to be business geniuses turning meager salaries into fortunes.

3. There's something rotten in the state of Thailand.

How they can justify investigating their own is beyond me, it gives no one the confidence to believe an enquiry will ever be impartial. At least the Joe Ferrari case was take on by another Police area.

Just continuing to work very hard to maintain the reputation of Thailands Finest Criminal Organisation !    In fact; it's no worse than what Thai Airways Crews have been doing for Decades, ever noticed those massive outsized items of Luggage they carry around ?
