FILE / International visitors await instructions from health officials inside the arrival terminal at Suvarnabhumi International Airport / AFP

A total of 23,660 travellers applied for a Thailand Pass to enter the country through the “Test and Go” quarantine exemption scheme yesterday (Tuesday), the first day the scheme resumed after registration was suspended on December 22, following the emergence of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said today (Wednesday) that he expects more travellers to apply to visit Thailand under the program in the future. About 5,500 others also registered for the pass yesterday for other entry options such as the sandbox, and alternative quarantines.

He said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed all relevant agencies to be prepared to deal with the arriving travellers and to make sure that all the necessary safety measures are in place and strictly enforced, to prevent possible spread of COVID-19.

Not surprising, many people were waiting for that opportunity to come back. I won't be surprised when daily applications fall drastically in a couple of weeks.

  • Many want to come.  Expats living here but I bet mostly, men who are single or have gotten divorces during Covid and are sick of the females appearance/attitudes in their countries and now wanting to

  • How many more would come if there was no requirement other than a negative Covid-19 test to board the plane or on arrival in Thailand?

At least two (my daughter and I)!

Uncontrolable numbers, just as the Covid cases...What is true?? that is the question all the time..

PM have told all agencies to be prepared..OMG.I guess specially hospitels and hospitals for the stupid people going there now.Good luck.

First the naysayers claim that nobody will come to Thailand, now they say that anyone coming will be forced to go to a hospital, or that too many are coming.

Naysayers be naysayers.

They can just post that they aren’t happy, every single day. Much easier.

For those heading straight to Pattaya it will be called ' Test and go cum '

At least 10, my 2 daughters and their families back in the UK.

Just got off the phone with one of them and they're definitely not coming under the current entry conditions.

if the numbers applying for the thai pass do not look like the image below after 5-10 days, I would be extremely surprised

I suspect there will be all sorts of problems with Thailand Pass software for 2 weeks.

  • Popular Post

I wonder what the breakdown of applicants is, nationality, point of origin etc.

I really hope they know what they are letting themselves in for

test positive day 5 and you are in a whole pile of expensive hurt

it really beggers belief that people would subject themselves to this

oh and if you are on a flight with someone that tests positive .......................good luck with that

I've been wondering all along, how many will "forget" the second test and what will happen to them....

Sorry to be a cynic, but expect lots of stories and upset ‘visitors’ in due course.

Agree with your comments but to be factual (I can only consider Phuket) numbers never really fell after the first Test & Go was cancelled. Majority of tourists simply opted for the Sandbox route instead and have kept coming in in similar numbers and I am guessing will continue to do so now. As big a risk as it is, the 30 or 40 I get to speak to every day state they were ok to take the risk and were simply desperate to travel, having been in virtual lockdown anyway for 18 months or so. Each to his own.....

How many have actually received a TP from the 23,000+? And how many days or weeks will it take for all of them to get? How many never get?  Those are numbers I'd like to know.

From Google: Tourist Arrivals in Thailand averaged 1,456,079.09 from 1997 until 2021, reaching an all time high of 3,930,800 in December of 2019 and a record low of 0 in April of 2020.

23,660 travellers is an absolute joke just like the government flip-flop  on the Test and Go.  23,660 will do little to help struggling tourist related businesses across Thailand.

I've been waiting for the right time to come back.  I had my first Thai Pass approved to travel on December 31, but due to the new covid variant starting to run rampant, I cancelled, losing all my insurance and asq hotel fees. Luckily, my airline tickets were reimbursed except the $500 cancellation.  Lesson learned:  Don't come until this all clears up.

Wouldn't give the place a second thought if it wasn't for having family commitments here..... Why anyone would consider coming on holiday under the present restrictions is beyond me....

If being stuck in a miserable cold UK town, with all the political and PC BS, and had been there some time, I certainly would. But of course not for a holiday.... a longer stay.

Here we go again, daily numbers on every aspect of a tourist.

T.A.T must be really desperate to share these figures as a daily breakdown.

Agreed - looking at the mess some western countries are in, and how the culture has changed for the worse, Thailand is not all that bad. But some people just like complaining ????
