Air travellers warned not to bring more than 30 face masks on board overseas flights

Thais and foreigners travelling abroad have been advised not to take more than 30 face masks with them, because they are a controlled product in Thailand and violators can face up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to 100,000 baht on conviction, according to the Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

The airport announced on its Facebook page yesterday (Thursday) that for anyone wishing to bring more than 30 face masks with them, but not exceeding 50, a doctor’s letter of certification is required.

The airport’s advisory follows an announcement from the Central Committee on Prices of Goods and Services, dated January 25th, which lists face masks, polypropylene (which is used in the production of face masks), chickens and chicken meat, sanitisers containing alcohol and recycling paper as controlled products.

Another fine example of Common sense ????

I wonder which genius thought this up. Everything else in the country under control? Time to get a handle on the too many face masks issue. The country is in good hands, no doubt about that.

Yes they are so cheap 15 baht @ pack of 10, n94. Probably resell them for $1-2 each in the west.

don't bring too many ....  because we want you to buy them here at a higher price

Remember almost 2 years ago when there were no face masks and Thai makers were exporting millions?  Guess it just takes a bit of time to be acted on - but make it an issue for users not makers.

But understand TV news is currently reporting this information is false and there is no limit in place.

Regardless, the simple fact every one could conceive it be true makes huge statement just how screwed up this place is.

They always want to be the hub of something.  I think they have the hub of ludicrous all to themselves.

I will say that we've not actually bought any masks for x years, well ever to be honest.

The local village office just keep delivering them for free, along with gallons of hand sanitiser (and rice + other "covid supplies"). OK the rate of supply has diminished recently but we are likely good for 2022.

Our village head is a good man and spends his budget wisely, hence the solar street lighting (zero running costs) and some CCTV. I'm not going to begrudge the fee of 300 Baht a year for garbage collection (twice a week) and other village fees.

What are the price difference between Europe compared to Thailand?

Here in Denmark i can buy 100 CE labeled surgical masks for 100 Dkr which is 500 baht.

So 5 baht pr mask.

Are they really that much cheaper in Thailand, so people would speculate in filling their luggage with masks and sell in Europe?

Omg - the utter lunacy.

Bring too many masks into Thailand - "Jail For You!!!"
Take too much pork across the border - "Jail For You!!!"

Don't ya remember the good old days when they use to concentrate enforcement targeting drug mules hauling in meth and hauling out heroin. Pretty soon it will be illegal to have too much toilet paper in your baggage or some such lunacy.
"You have 20 pairs of underwear in bag!  Jail For You!!!"

Actually comparing prices to my home country (Merica), they're much cheaper here.

I'm not saying I agree with this idiotic rule, it's hard to understand the reasoning.

This will be it. First reaction is OMG, what now! Then, hang on, this is put in place because one of those… ‘people’… might lose out.

Now where have I heard these words before, 'all a misunderstanding'?

ONE 31 NEWS: The director of Suvarnabhumi airport has come out to say that the news about the 30 mask limit for flying out of the country is all a misunderstanding. In fact it is old news as there is no mask shortage now #Thailand

You couldn't make up the stuff Thai authoritarianism dreams up... Unless you've lived in country long enough and nothing surprises you after a while !
