AMID heavy cross-border travel to Malaysia during the current holiday three Thais who had travelled from Satun province to the neighbouring country and tested positive for marijuana at their checkpoint were immediately detained at a police station for three days and fined 50,000 baht, Amarin TV said yesterday evening (July 29).

The three Thais, crossing over from Wang Prachan checkpoint on the Thai side to Wang Kelian checkpoint in Malaysia, were found to have traces of marijuana in their body through a urine test. Upon being detained they were also told that if they were granted bail they would have to report to Malaysian authorities.

As Malaysia classifies marijuana as a narcotic plant that carries a heavy penalty, Malaysian police and military officers at all border checkpoints are now on their toes checking passports, carrying out urine tests and scanning travellers and their vehicles to prevent infiltration of any form of this plant into their country.

The Thai authorities used to test too. Any positive for drugs then guilty. Different country, different rules as they choose to enforce their law. Simple. Don't do drugs!

What's the time frame for urine test?

How long does it stay in your system?

Crazy behavior by the Malaysian authorities.

I would only accept drug tests if alchol tests and liver tests would be done fair is fair. No weed but alcohol is no problem is crazy. Anyway If you work somewhere where you cant use drugs id leave. That is if they are talking about use in free time and the drug is legal in that country. Drugged or drunk on work is never ok.

I would not work there, thankfully i got option having a good education and all. Besides the country where I come from its an unheard invasion of privacy. I am not from an old fashioned country with outdated druigs laws. Though we got a glaring mistake in our law concerning cannabis.

I am all for making sure that employees are not high or drunk when working. But dictating that they can't do legal stuff outside of work is crazy. I bet you would not talk this way if it included alcohol. Shows the mentality.

(im talking about legal drugs in a country and outside of working hours no effect on work)

Singapore has said it wil go after Singaporeans who use drugs in Thailand. (another crazy country). Trying to dictate what you do in a country where the laws are different.

Anyway don't go into those countries, i for sure would not go if i have used can stay quite long in your system depending on how often you use.

But then they have a point.

If Singapore don't want any stoned people in their country then it makes sense to stop them.

Imagine a person taking lots of drugs in Thailand just before the flight. He/she won't be sober on arrival.

Personally I don't care if people want to be stoned if they are responsible people and i.e. don't drive. But as usual there is a set of people who think that if it is legal they can use it anytime in any condition. Not a good idea.

Indeed i would not work anywhere where they tell me what to do in my private time. That is the benefit of being educated you can choose where you work. But i do 100% agree that it should not impact your job so if Sunday drunk or stoned. Then work good at Monday or if not then yea sure fire them if it happens a lot.

As i stated not effect work. I am an employer myself. As long as my employees work good i don't care if they drink or use drugs in their free time. But when it compromises work its an other thing.

Its a bit hard for you to understand that many can drink and use drugs without problems.

If you are a regular user it can be more than a month. I remember we used to have a couple from California visit our bar every year, before Covid. They used to get taxis everywhere because they said if they got stopped on a bike at a checkpoint and tested, they would be positive. I did mention if it would be worth stopping using it for a month or so before traveling.............as this is a family forum I will not post the answer......

Dope stays in weeks or months. The introduction of urine testing in British  jails led to the widespread  use of heroin, traces of  which are easier to eliminate  from the body quicker

While I understand that Malaysia can do whatever they want, I'm a bit surprised that there is a urine test upon entry.  I can honestly say that I've never had to take a urine test upon entering any country on the planet.  Ever.  So yeah, a little strange that Malaysia is doing this.

there could of been a valid reason for the immigration official to go this far. any number of things could of set off a red flag that warranted further investigation which led to the testing. would need more first hand knowledge of the encounter to make a proper decision.

while i don't agree with random testing of urine. ignorance to the laws used by adults is no excuse.

Say one is on board a train bound from Thailand to Malaysia, or in a restaurant prior to boarding a plane to Singapore and someone near you is smoking weed.  Now, I’ve been given to understand that someone smoking a regular cigarette in a room full of people will result in a blood test for nicotine of the same amount for _everone_ in that room as for the smoker.  Does this also apply to smoking maryjane?  That would be a real bummer for the innocents who may later get caught up in a test while trying to cross the border wouldn’t it?  And just one reason for keeping the smoking of this substance restricted to the privacy of one’s digs.

The behaviour  of the Malaysian authorities is primitive, authoritarianism, cruel and very short sighted.

No it's another reason for the ignorant Malaysian authorities to review  their policies. Stop blood testing travellers which is absurd. And stop executing people for drug offences. They are a disgrace.

to 10 days for the nanograms in your system to be reduced to a non detectable level, of course that is dependent upon how much you smoke,
