Public anger boils over in protests in Phuket against Swiss man Mr Uli and private beaches

Featured Replies

I wonder if Swiss guy is deported, or made to leave the island in fear of his life, who will look after and pay for 15 elephants?

Going to get expensive, however I suspect the elephants will be the biggest losers here.

The country's national animal indeed.

  • This guy is going to be deported or be milked for everything they can get their hands on. I’m hoping for both.  Whatever happens, a change of address is on the cards.

  • Frankly, Thailand and especially Phuket deserves a big clean up. Whether Thai or foreign construction companies/ investors, Phuket and its once paradise beaches are being destroyed. Too many crooks ,

Kicking harmless people in their back is not acceptable under any circumstances. Personally I would like to see this Swiss thug deported, but he apparently has the means to buy his way out of the situ

Totally agree, but in this case the 'entitled foreigner' and his wife took the high road and refused to apologise and actually asked her to apologise...so within hours after his antics the s__t hit the fan and then he had no choice but to publicly grovel at City hall, but by that time the netizens had made it WW3, and now he will be scutinised in every orifice. Doubt if he'll be deported, but with the PM having taken an interest there will be some type of retribution.

I am not an avid fan or follower of the Prime Minister but on this occasion his reaction is to be applauded

"Srettha said it is not appropriate to verbally amplify this incident as people in Thailand should live in peace with this small issue already being managed.

He added that he did not want something like this to occur but since it did he has instructed the police and Tourism and Sports Ministry to take care of the situation and underscore to foreign tourists and foreigners living here that they must strictly abide by the law."

He has certainly reacted more appropriately than the usual mob on here,

Although perhaps it would have been better for him to advise "all" people to abide by the law,

I hope he does not get deported, trial by media is just plain wrong  trial by social media is even worse.

It has to do with the way the bloodthirsty Thais are vilifying foreigners for this one guy, banning him, deporting him, blacklisting him.

Let's tar and feather him, eh?

Its not only the  Bloodthirsty Thais that have worked themselves up  into a feeding frenzy,  the usual suspects on here are putting them to shame.

I would say in this case that a "Wai" and 500 bt would be a perfectly appropriate conclusion, at least it would have been before any media involvement and the congregation of a baying mob

According to the doctor, she offered three options to the foreigner and his wife: apologise mutually and end the matter, separate without an apology, or proceed with legal proceedings.

The foreigner rejected the agreement and ordered the doctor to apologise to him. He insisted that he would never apologise for the assault and would file a complaint to the police to ensure the doctor went to jail.

You reckon you could "take" him, right?

Well the first option would obviously be  the easiest way out,  But , as mentioned in a previous post, from you I think,  there is a possible 4 year prison sentence for trespass, maybe he thinks he has a case, personally I would not be as certain as him , considering the way things have developed   but up to him as they say

That's exactly what the british said in 1773 at the Boston tea party...

That little event did start of a chain reaction, went on for a few years I believe before the tea thieves who carried off what they could throwing the rest in the water became politicians.  Whatever were the outcome??

As a renter its unlikely he would have seen the land deeds if the doctor and her friend were sitting on  the top step  and the video shows clearly they weren't there is a case for trespass

steps 2 to 4 encroaching on public land so would imagine any trespass court case would have been thrown out based on them sitting on public land

Everything seems to have been blown out of all proportion?

Really?

Please explain the correct details of the incident.

Or is it normal to kick strangers from where you come from?

What's the law converning beachfront properties? Which part of the beach actually belongs to the owner... I suppose it does not just stop at the water line 🙂

If my extremely limited maritime law is correct any claim to land ends at the high water/tide mark.

Now politicians/countries and the UN have agreed on economic zones as well as territorial zones/areas etc, that only in the South China Sea seems to be ignored, cannot defame chines you know??

I wish they made as much fuss about important issues, such as the stolen election, but no, that's above their thinking power.

I am saying they need to look at how many of them behave when they are abroad, you would think the way they carry on it was a nation of Snow White virgins.

So let us all start kicking the Thais around on sight? Would it teach them a lesson?

Jeeese... for some here in, Thai's seem to be monsters!

Terrible life style to live... where you hate the natives of the country YOU chose in preference to YOUR home country.

IMO, we are not being told the full truth of what happened during that incident.

There is definitely a very minor road rage incident, but we only have one side of the story.

The Swiss guy apologised, but the ambulance driver is the one being charged under the computer crimes act for posting the story online.

Apart from this incident completely blown out of proportion by the media hellbent on fuelling the lowest xenophobic butthurt feelings, his real 'sin' is bringing media attention -  undesired to say the least by the local construction/property heavyweights. They might not be very happy having a light shone on their corrupt practices and thus the least of this clowns troubles will be of the legal variety.

Seems to be in realms of possibility, that he will be forcefully reminded of the damage he has done to the good reputation of the local real estate moguls ...... to serve as a warning to others.

Yes and this has been consistent with many decisions handed down under the computer crimes act  in the last 10 years or so...

Technical Private beaches don’t exist in Phuket or Thailand, and that’s by law. However, people often call some of Phuket most amazing beaches ‘private beaches’ because they can’t enter. So if none of those beaches is private, how is that possible? Simple: if you own the land surrounding that beach, you can deny its access.

https://www.phuket101.net/private-beaches-phuket/

However if you were to paraglide or access the beach by boat and your able to leave the beach again the owners can't stop you

Just deport this thug, and ban him from ever returning. Disgusting behaviour.

And also the usual suspects automatically siding with the foreigner and dismissing the Thai side of things.

It is so strong that I get the feeling that things get fuelled and orchestrated from somewhere. History from the 1930s Germany could be repeating itself in Thailand and this time being a Jew wouldn't make any difference.

Some of us choose not to walk around pretending we have gone native.

We don't swallow the old chestnut that all Thais are wonderful and we should be so grateful to stay in this amazing place where all is well, and those nasty foreigners commit all the sins and should be deported for blowing their nose.

Some of us have contributed plenty over many years and don't feel the need to broadcast all we have done to assist in various ways, quietly.

Some of us look at the reality of where we are and not the rose-coloured glasses impression, others would like us to have.

Thailand is not unique in allowing foreigners to reside here who obey the law, and fulfil their retirement visa extension criteria. Many countries allow it.

Plenty of Thais living in the UK, EU, USA and other places where the natives are not screaming ' Deport and blacklist him ' for the slightest infraction a Thai makes in our countries.

As it happens a great deal of this bleating, screaming the hysterical old cliche of ' Deport and Blacklist him 'eyebrow-raising and tut-tutting seems to come from the usual suspects on this board.

Many of us on here don't agree with his behaviour but there are rational ways of dealing with it.

Way too many on here screaming for blood and deport him, blacklist him.

Newsflash.........they carry no power whatsoever to enforce such actions, such they can keep their jackboots under their computer desks!
