BANGKOK, Sept 20 (TNA) – The first dose of COVID-19 vaccination for Thais next month will be the vaccine made by Sinovac, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

The plan for the Sinovac vaccine to be the first dose for COVID-19 vaccination resulted from Thailand’s order for 12 million doses from Sinovac. Of the amount, 9 million doses will be delivered this month and 3 million more doses will arrive next month, Mr Anutin said.

The mix-and-match vaccine administration would stimulate antibodies to the same level boosted by two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Adequate COVID-19 vaccinations would be done in Thailand in early November at the latest, Mr Anutin said. (TNA)”

What does he mean by “adequate”?

Double jabbed?

Most of the Thais I know will not get a Chinese jab, and are waiting for anything else to become available.  I think most can get a Sinovac anytime at Central if wanted.

It is an absolute disaster/craziness/you name it to read how Thai health officials create new ideas every day and endanger the health and lives of their citizens. Just this week
- boosters under the skin instead of in the muscles to save vaccines...

- human trial with 100'000 STUDENTS in BKK, using the Chinese stuff instead of a real vaccine (Pfizer was promised for all students just days before)

- only one mRNA shot for students due to some fear of myocarditis which was never expressed anywhere in the world, leaving the students at risk

- mixture of vaccines that NOBODY ELSE in the world is trying to do/ accepting

- opening the country, when they are definitely not ready for it. The risk for the country is of course coming from within and NOT from the tourists, as those would mostly come fully vaccinated.

To me, it looks like everybody wearing a white coat or a khaki uniform is now qualified to utter his opinion as "fact" in order to get his 5 minutes of fame (and later shame), but not a single one of these <deleted myself> ever listens to what the WORLD as a whole has already experienced.

Perhaps I only have anecdotal evidence, but Sinovac does not seem to be popular among Thais. From my staff, to my staff's friends, to taxi and Grab drivers who chat me up about Covid and vaccines, not a single person has anything good to say about Sinovac. From a belief that it is ineffective generally-and quite ineffective against Delta-to comments about how 'Thailand only uses it because it's owned by (a certain Thai billionaire)/the PM just wants to please his Chinese masters)', the vaccine has a negative reputation.

Whether or not the beliefs about SInovac are accurate is immaterial; it seems trying to force SInovac on folks who don't want it is not a smart move. Then again, it seems a 'smart move' from the current regime qualifies as a unicorn.

Absolute nonsense - Sinovac first, I think most Thai's now are 'learned up' and know Sinovac is not about health Mr. A.........

No international study that this is safe or effective with this particular mix only an in-house small study carried out that has not been published for review.

At Central Westgate everyday....the line is queued on 3 floors for SinoVac...whether the Thais you know will not get it is inconsequential...obviously a majority of Thais are lining up in droves for the shot and a shot at normalcy.

Take the mis-match (sic)  combo and face internatiinal travel restrictions. or don't take the the shots and face domestic restrictions. What a dilemna! I searched for research findings on the Sino/AZ mix, and found..... nothing.  I am not willing to be a guinee pig, so better wait a couple of months.

In China, researchers recently found that the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines had a combined efficacy of 70% in preventing COVID-19 infections during a Delta-driven outbreak in the southern city of Guangzhou.

My wife informed me that she had helped the security guard where we live get registered for a vaccination, which happened a week or so ago.  Interestingly the registration, as viewed on the app on his phone, says he has been injected with 'coronavac'.  He is pretty sure he was told by the nurse it was Sinovac at the the time.

I may be cynical but it looks like they are telling people the injection is 'coronavac', which is a generic term that covers every type of vaccine, to get around the reluctance to accept Sinovac.

Or could I be mistaken.............

That will leave more, for those reasonable enough  to take the good , instead of waiting for the better.

It seems that Covid 19 is having a positive evolutionary effect on the human race by reducing the unreasonable portion of the population. .

U.S. to Lift Pandemic Travel Restrictions, Easing Tension With Europe
Travelers who provide proof of full vaccination against the coronavirus before boarding a flight will be able to enter the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers people fully inoculated two weeks after they receive the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Those who have received vaccines listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization, such as the AstraZeneca vaccine, would also be considered fully vaccinated, according to a statement from Thomas Skinner, a C.D.C. spokesman.

Sounds like a "par for the course" wheeze - after all they have dissembled, mislead, obfuscated or lied every time they have opened their mouths about their vaccination programme!

I went for my jab last week.....queue for Sinovac was huge and mainly Thais. Queues for AZ and Pfizer about 1/10th as big as for Sinovac.

Good to know the SIn and AZ combo still does not qualify.

They're still ordering this stuff?!!!  This makes me feel nauseous to read.

I know why they're doing it, I just can't believe they're actually still doing it.

That is the combination that the 40 year old emergency service worker in Ratchaburi was given prior to his death , blood clot in or near the heart.

Sino in June , Sino in July and Astra last Friday.

He died Friday night.

Sinovac use Coronavac as a brand name in South America. From Wikipedia:

CoronaVac, also known as the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, is an inactivated virus COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech

Is that 23% effective against catching Delta variant, or 23% effective against dying from delta variant ?

A "full" sinovacc vaccine (one shot is half a vaccination) is effective in preventing death from covid, High 90% - 100%, the same as other vaccines.

Keep in mind, some businesses require their employees to have been vaccinated.

So it may be a choice of Sinovac, or unemployment.
