What a backward country this is, those in charge have no idea what they are doing.

Draconian laws, water shortages, electrical outages, total mismanagement of any scheme they attempt to introduce.

Thank god or anyone that i did not move to Thailand, the place is literally a car crash (no pun intended)

I finally moved to Thailand over 20 years ago and it was the best move I have made in my life.

Having said that however I live in rural Kamphaeng Phet far from the madding tourist places I have lived and worked in Bangkok for about 5 years in the late 1990s and also out in the provinces and I much prefer it in the rural areas.

Most of the time the government is in the background and ignored. Draconian laws rarely affect us, water shortages sometimes, floods sometimes, electrical outages once a month or so, but it is possible to work round most of them or simply live with them.

As for government mis-management that happens everywhere and it rarely affects that many people anyway.

quote "What a backward country this is, those in charge have no idea what they are doing". Now there I agree with you, and the only way to remove them is to have more and bigger guns, which takes us back to where we are now.

How is this going to help the average Thai country bumpkin? fewer tourists mean fewer restaurants and fewer bars can be supported even if all of these people went out every night which they will not because like many people said they will stay at their fancy hotel most of the time. they will take private tours. first time a taxi says no there will be hell to pay on social media.

I think they have talked about attracting quality tourists for 3-4 years now. They would have come by now if their strategy (whatever that is?) was actually working...

I'm glad the Energy minister is on it though, definitely his department! It's hard reading news here with a straight face nowadays...

I guarantee you that the average digital nomad in Thailand spends more per month than the average foreign pensioner, and that's taking into account that they don't build houses in Isaan.

Brett Dev on YouTube paints rather a different picture of the "average" Thai based digital nomad. He's a freelance web developer, living in Chiang Mai, whose channel specifically targets digital nomad wannabes.

The post pandemic recovery of Thailand’s tourism sector will focus on quality rather than quantity,

Instead they should focus on Recovery for all

First off since when does any business etc choose their customers?

Secondly if by some fantasy only really rich tourists visited Thailand who would that help?

Thailand is made up of many classes of people the majority are not going to benefit from only rich tourists

Focus Thailand Focus ! Recovery not Fantasy

The nation is throughly bereft of coastal property even condos with good views.

Outside the national parks there are perhaps a few dozen nice beaches in the country.

Next, if you found a property you'll need 60-100m to put a small villa all in. This must be done through a corporation and vest of luck getting the money out lol.

Or...for the same money you could buy a fully deeded dream home in Florida. Huge stretches of beaches. That sort of money will still get you a very nice home in Southern California as well.

Lack of ownership and repatriation of investment especially profit if any

Immigration hassles. Even non US citizens on 10Y B stay six months without reporting.

2m € in the south of Spain, Italy or Greece. Imagine that's a nice home as well.

They've been pushing this for decades and no one has shown up. Now, with the Chinese RE market crashing and 75% of Chinese wealth in RE Thailand better rethink that old, tired wet dream.

Never met a global nomad with money. Now, with covid all those inspid travel sites that brought in beer money are toast. All those online shops selling trinkets no one can buy without jobs.

Not many freelance IT workers. Who would trust them especially working remotely from a sketchy county like this?

Finally, Thailand keeps on about salaried income. Most wealthy people that draw a salary still need to be at their workplace. They've completely missed the fact that wealthy people have investments that at best pay quarterly.

I had a Thai professor from hkust pitching HKG and the university to my students. He basically said in Thailand you'll learn accounting and basic business. In Hong Kong you'll learn high finance. The Thais just don't get it.

This is not big money work. There are facets of this industry that still pay something like e-commerce, complicated back end stuff and custom sites.

If they were good enough most would be in Bay area making bank.

Passive income, making money on adsense, sponsored links...lol. Go get a job teaching English.

Huge tax on beef, wine, cheese and all foreign foods outside ASEAN.

Foreigners don't like Thai food!!

No such thing as fine dining here for all intents and purposes.

They have the tourist industry ruined by changing the visa rules years ago already.. They wanted to get rid of all the people living here, spending their money and took care of families, but who could not get another visa than a tourist visa. The visa system is so outdated, but these people left the country already.. Than the backpacker were the target to get rid of.and  so fewer tourists came. In the meantime they have crackdown all kind of jobs , such as teachers who are working without a workpermis. I know you have to follow the rules, but sometimes it is by all the bureaucratic rules it is impossible to get your papers for a workpermit. But they don't care that these people contribute to the economy by travelling in their freetime and spending their earned money. All these measures are tighted after the coup. It seems that tey wanted to get rid of the foreigners. Now they want quality tourists, but in the meantime Thailand has got a bad reputation already, by double pricing, draconic alcohol rules, the incompetent and corrupt RTP, and the general feeling of being unwelcome here. Quality tourists will surely go other places and for Thailand, which never needed to do anything to get the cheaper tourists , because they came all by themselves, they have to change a lot to be attractive again. But therefor they need a vision and they lack of that They only can assume, predict, hope, expect and so, instead of making things easier, better, and attractive for those who wanted to come. If you say we only want quality tourist is wrong. People who have less money or backpackers, feel that they are not welcome anymore and find other destinations... But Thai logic is unlogical

focus-on-quality-tourists-who-can-spend-more”

Yeah ! that is why they introduced the Immigration "65K transfer a month rule" for long stayers (for some in a "eternal 65K carrousel move"... same 65K in & out & in again ) ????....

So they can spend that  800K rule better so at least they have that for the Thai economy  already  ????????

Having their "quality tourists".... Thai gov. left hand does not work with right hand as always ????

I think they will find it hard to get any tourists here.

  • Draconian Rules
  • Extreme Pollution
  • Hub of Corruption
  • Two-Tier Pricing
  • Moral Insanity

Quality doesn't mean wealthy. Thailand needs Arts galleries, museums, orchestras  race tracks  casinos, parks. Money follows art. Thailand also needs a modern enlightened drug policy.

They are world leader in "Arts".

The art of lying.

The art of cheating.

The art of not losing face.

The art of corruption.

And and and...

No doubt. But you said digital nomads in Thailand. What's teaching English got to do with the price of tea in China?
