A nightmare is unfolding.....

If I was up all night playing music, I would really hate to be woken early in the morning by loud music, tit for tat. Be aware though, you probably have a higher regard for the law than your Thai neighbor.

You are right, but that's us (Farangs I mean)

Thais can sleep through almost anything and especially if they have been drinking all night!!!

If in Isaan then start a fish sauce factory with large fans blowing in a "convenient" direction? And add a weigh station for rubber latex if growing in the area. Plus use the weigh station for random purposes such as cassava crops and rice and other things that often involve all night noise of vehicles in queues !

Or?

I have kept a very low profile because of the "farang factor"..........the wife's father was village head a few years ago and I am hoping he can hold some sway.

Yeah, i live in my wife's mountain village where all her relatives live, everyone knows everyone's business, I am the only western foreigner living in an overgrown village,  just keep your mouth closed and go about your business as if nothing bothers you and let your wife deal with it, that way everyone wont be saying ahh the farang hates this or that blah blah.. you get it ?  its bad enough that they resent you for having so much money.   buy yourself a condo or something far away to escape to every once in awhile. just for your sanity.   I have been in the mountains over 28 years, I took up farming cassava just to keep mental,  kinda a ZEN thing working in a field peaceful.   many of the people here on this forum don't know what it's really like to live outside of their comfort farang city.  I havent seen a farang in over 2 years now and i prefer it.

You are incorrect. There are laws, even in out in the sticks villages.

If the village head does nothing then go to the local sub district office. They will take action. I'm speaking from experience.

Very true. Often Village Headmens will not like to rock the local boat but officianado's more remote often have much more sway.

If you are truly out in the sticks with rice fields all around, where does he think his customer base will come from?  Amazing. Building a cafe in the middle of nowhere. The things some people will do. No consideration.

I suppose hoping he just goes bust isn't really the answer. The only things I can think of are having a quiet word, or going the legal route.

Building right up against your boundary makes me wonder if he has done it on purpose to drive you out.

I was told that ever Thai person has the right to earn a living From Thier House ..so think you are fxxxxd.

And there is nothing that will sound proof your house enough ! oh **** ! , I am getting angry for you. Hire some Burma to **** the guy. Probably about 50,000. B .

Moving to her village was always going to be a disaster.

Look at it this way, now you have an excuse not to go.

I think so too, but why?  Is he planning a takeover ?

But first exhaust all diplomatic methods !

Some of the most successful cafes, restaurants and coffee shops I've visited in Thailand were in the middle of the boondocks, or miles from anywhere on a lonely highway.  But they got good buzz on the interweb, so people traveled for miles to go there.  We'd be driving down some lonely road, and my friends would fire up their smartphones and insist we stop in 3.5 miles...  And the places were packed.  That's the nature of social media.

It sounds as a good option, but may I say it's not.

Reason being, you are going against this man's lively-hood, he maybe went into debt to buy his Music System and if you go and buy a bigger ... system and you start putting it on will he stop? Maybe eventually as he goes broke but it could also end up as that this guy will be very vindictive towards the OP and his wife and I think then for example slashed tires are the least of their worries.

Remember the stories (read here almost on a daily basis) about a Thai getting into an argument about whatever (some minor issue) and someone got killed in the end!

Just saying of course

:wai:

I would have to agree.....we have so much more to lose when push comes to shove.

I have to cringe when I hear people ask how long does this occur during the day ! One minute of bass 10 is intolerable.

Start the verbal diplomacy trail and the govt official paper trail.

Record the noise often ! When meeting with govt officials have your wife tell them your depressed and bipola  and you can't sleep, seriously !

Nobody should have to put up with that !

Chock dee

and the smell was indescribable…..maybe it was fish oil mixed with honey ….or something else……

Un*******believable.

Just returned to our room in a Thai 'resort' and there is Thai family opposite, all sitting outside, bluetooth speaker playing full blast.

That is it.

I am flying back to the UK Dec 2 and I don't see me coming back.

If he is doing it, you can do it Will. It´s time to stop be good! Loud speaker system is not expensive in Thailand, but they sound like hell. I am pretty sure you can play speed and death metal for a month and he will pack up and leave. ????????????????????????

I mean, if his customers can´t drink a coffée in peace or hear what they are signing. As I say, same as he is doing to you.

You cannot expect anything else in the Land Of Noise.

Selfish bastards all of them.

I can see why people go on shooting sprees.......getting close to it.

Buy a louder sound system than his and play really creepy, spooky ghost music or anything else that would put local people off going there.

He won't stay around long if his business fails.

Get your own sound system and play some Jimi Hendrix full volume when they are playing karaoke.

You mentioned this property is a quiet location surrounded by fields etc, why on earth would he put a Cafe right there ? They almost always go on main through roads. That leads me to lean toward this being a deliberate act, not to force you out but to pressure you to buy him out !

I would carry on, finish the house as per original plan.DONT do anything.Take a huge step back wards and wait 3 months. Then review where he is at and how the situation is. Play the long game and dont get drawn into any unneccesary stress, no offence but I doubt you could take much more of it any way. STEP BACK remove yourself from it, Lrt things wait out awhile.

Dont throw money at the problem at this stage.
