A British man was arrested with a magic mushroom in Patong. Magic mushrooms are listed as illegal category 5 drugs in Thailand.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that on Thursday (January 25th) they arrested the 33-year-old British man in front of a restaurant on the Phra Baramee Road in Patong. Seized from him was 1.10 grams of a magic mushroom.

He was taken to the Patong Police Station to face charges of illegal possession of category 5 drugs (magic mushrooms).

Is he seriously just pointing at "a" mushroom as in just one? Agree with above poster that this appears to be a token arrest. Did they find any that would support sales or is it just that one lonely mushroom?

Is this really worth reporting on? A single magic mushroom? Must be a slow week on the news front..

I think looking at his skinny body he is well into lots of other drugs already apart from weed

Looks like it took a SWAT team to arrest this guy, must be a very bad villain, did they get a tip off, or was it thru intell????

Yes I am being sarcastic!!!

Mushrooms are about to become legal in Thailand. Right? Why the fuss

Atrocious pointing he clearly needs some practice...

Was he wearing the mushroom tied to a necklace? Why, how...would the police search him?

I would have thought in patong they have bigger fish to fry,

If it's a magic mushroom, why didn't he make it disappear , and meanwhile in the news..gold necklaces being ripped off tourists, crazy Russian's running around naked and assaulting people, taxi drivers being killed, corruption in the police force, but we will talk about magic mushrooms 🍄

And looking at your post you seem to be a bit of a muppet.🙂

I think many tourists still live in the Thailand described by Alex Garland.

Sarcasm OK, but you have a point how did they come to arrest him.?

What a nonsense, haven't seen or been offered it once, at any of the 100+ weed shops I visited all over Thailand. Neither did I hear other smokers talk about it.

What a joke. All the reggae bars on the roads in and out of patong sell them.

If they wanted to do their jobs they would arrest them all in a day.

Arresting this guy achieves nothing.

Mushrooms have been available here for decades, I can remember when " Mexican Mushroom Omelets'' were on the menu on Samui 25yrs ago.

I find that rather a sad picture. Scrawny lad pointing at what I assume is a small bag containing some dried mushroom. 1g would be about the minimum amount of dried mushroom to achieve any effect.

Surprised they didnt do him for intent to supply with such a huge stash..........:stoner:

It's all a misunderstanding officer, I thought it was a Thai herbal remedy, for covid.

But he subsequently disappeared into thin air leaving only a few whisps of smoke.
