Made up a story about being kidnapped!

A recent incident involving a young Englishman claiming abduction for ransom has led to a collaborative effort between the Royal Thai Police (RTP) and Interpol.

The unfolding drama occurred as the man, accompanied by four foreign friends, was residing in a Pattaya hotel room, reported Daily News.

During a subsequent police search, both narcotics and unregistered firearms were discovered. Allegedly, the group had fabricated a kidnapping story to extort money from their families, unaware of the serious consequences they would face.

On January 26, Pol. Lt. Gen. Tetsakan Sathasivan, RTP Commissioner, issued a directive for a crackdown, supervised by Pol. Col. Montree Thetkhan, Deputy Commander of RTP, and Pol. Lt. Col. Sarawut Saengjun, Commander of Special Operations Unit 2.

The operation resulted in the apprehension of Mr. Ian and Mr. Damien, British nationals facing charges of drug possession and illegal firearm possession. Another Englishman, Mr. Darren, is similarly charged with drug-related offenses.

The investigation disclosed that the group, grappling with financial difficulties during their prolonged stay in Thailand, devised a plan to deceive their families into sending money by fabricating a kidnapping.

Despite uncovering drugs and firearms in the hotel room, the police operation found no evidence of an actual abduction. The suspects now await legal proceedings under Thai law.

If guilty, lock them up here for a few years, won't be missed back home.

might of been easier to just ask your family for money instead of extorting them.

Likely to have been leaching off family for their entire term here. I'd guess the families had already shut the tap off and these geniuses tried to get it turned back on.

Sad part is the family will probably now spend a fortune getting them out of the goo they are in.  I wish they'd say: "Enjoy your extra 3 years in Thailand.  We're done with you."

what a vicious cycle eh.

I may be wrong here but didn't they claim they'd been kidnapped by Thai police or was that another story?

Another negative Pattaya story with Brits involved? Here's a question for you armchair experts, what's the breakdown by nationality (Brits, Aussie, German, Russian, etc) in Pattaya?

Not all Brits.

Thai news site Matichon identified the people involved as being two from UK (Ian and Darren), one French (Damian), one New Zealander (Benjamin).

It's amazing what ideas people will come with to stay in the Land of smiles

Well here's hoping they get a jail sentence then deported 😱

10 pound Pom’s, what a bunch of complete fools. They will get some nice fish head soup now for a while and I can’t see mum & dad helping out too much. Probably part of the breakfast club

So why the guns? possibly as protection while selling drugs, no doubt such questions have been raised by the BIB and the conclusions could lead to decades behind bars, Don Corleone would be shaking his head at such idiots.

If ? I am afraid this dumbo”s will be doing 7-10 years each if lucky, could be double that depending on the amount of drugs found

Congratulations, morons. Good luck on convincing your families to finance your legal fees.

I think an extended stay of the next 20 years at the Bangkok Hilton for all of them sounds like an awesome idea.

It proves that some people are so desperate to stay in Thailand that they will do absolutely anything to achieve it.
