June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post BANGKOK, June 11 (TNA) – The ambassadors of Belgium and France asked the Thai government to arrange for COVID-19 vaccinations for their citizens. Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Belgian ambassador Sibille de Cartier d’Yves asked the government to speed up COVID-19 vaccinations for Belgians in Thailand including those living on Phuket and Samui islands. Most Belgians in Thailand were members of the Social Security Fund and the Public Health Ministry would meet the request, Mr Anutin said. June 11, 20214 yr Popular Post french ambassador begged for 10k of J&J to be imported for those over 45. Might be coming shortly. It might be coming shortly, probably will be distributed by the government hospitals for a fee. That's the direction. What Anutin promissed to belgian ambassador is just diplomatic for f.off. Completely meaningless, as SSF is delaying vax program for immigrant workers, just today they said till September

June 12, 20214 yr Popular Post Well the UK wont even enquire about there expats. Even though most have paid National insurance all there working life and some will still be paying tax to the UK government. I appreciate we have moved away for whatever reason but most have earned and payed for the right to assistance in a once in lifetime event.
June 12, 20214 yr Popular Post Beggars belief! If they can just import j and j vaccine that quick why not import for everyone else who wants it..

In the case of the U.S. I would expect that Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman shoveled the path for follow-on discussions during her meeting with payut a few weeks ago? From the statement: The Deputy Secretary reiterated the U.S. commitment to the people of Thailand in our fight against COVID-19, which includes $30 million in COVID-related assistance to Thailand. The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing to work together to combat COVID-19. https://th.usembassy.gov/statement-on-the-visit-of-deputy-secretary-wendy-r-sherman-to-thailand/

June 12, 20214 yr Popular Post Just a refresher. We've been discussing to death Americans wanting their country to help them be vaccinated in Thailand, as China has done. All sorts of reasons given as to why that would be a bad idea. One that stood out was that it would be deeply offensive to Thailand and provoke hurt feelings--never mind that China has already done it. I remember posting a suggestion that the US donate 5 or 10 million doses with the stipulation that a portion is set aside to vaccinate Americans--thus softening the supposed blow to Thailand's pride. Now we have France getting approval to send 10,000 vaccines for its citizens over 45 years of age living in Thailand. Nothing mentioned of sending any vaccines to help Thais, just a shipment only for French citizens. Anutin readily agreed to allow this with no fuss that I can see.. So, I'm wondering where is the supposed hurt feelings from Thailand at being so deeply offended by a country sending vaccines for its citizens. Seems to be accepted pretty easily and likely the only hurt feelings will be from citizens from other countries who have been left stranded by their governments.
