BANGKOK (NNT) - The spokesperson to the economic body of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has confirmed the government will tread carefully in its plan to reopen the nation in 120 days but acknowledged that some risk is inherent in the interests of returning to normalcy.

Secretary-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, as spokesperson to the economic body of the CCSA, voiced his belief confidence in the Prime Minister has risen despite attempts by certain groups to distort information and disorient the public. He stated his agreement with the PM’s plan for Thailand to welcome foreign tourists again in 120 days, saying it would benefit many in the country whose livelihoods depend on tourism. He asked that the wider public understand that a risk must be taken and that while some infections may occur, the government will be thorough in its handling of the situation.

Deputy Head of the Democrat Party and Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives Alongkorn Polabutr meanwhile, posted a statement to Facebook titled “Do Not Allow the Prime Minister to Unilaterally Set a Deadline of 120 Days to Reopen the Nation”. The post contains six suggestions, for all entities to be allowed to acquire foreign made COVID-19 vaccines, for more support for domestically manufactured vaccines, for an end to top-down administration through decentralization of power, for more public aid measures, for public support of the government towards establishing a Next Normal and for transparent administration that does not benefit any individual group or individual.

Leader of Seri Ruam Thai Party Pol Gen Seripisuth Temiyaves gave his opinion that the PM will not be able to reopen the nation in 120 days, pointing out that the government had declared it would end corruption two weeks prior and has yet to do so.

Surely, that was ment to be a joke?

The CCSA needs to inform its Czar that U-turns and addons take up to 5 minuets longer in a crisis ????

I used force to gain power. I rigged an election. I am untouchable. You will kowtow to me for I am your leader and I know what is best for this country.

The day has come and your great general has spoken 219 days from now the tanks will roll down the streets, banners will be flown and a new 1st visitor will be rewarded with the keys to the city.......good luck with that.

What is new about the October opening timeframe? wasn't it announced a couple of months ago when they had announced the 7 day quarantine for those vaccinated,? and then a couple of weeks later they changed back to 14 days.

I don't think anyone expects the floodgates to open but a few tourists would be desirable as an aid to the economy and small businesses in particular.

But what we can't see is the myriad of rules and regulations like those applying to the Phuket Sandbox. Regular tourists just won't go along with this.

They will need to appreciate that people coming on holiday want to be free to spend their holiday as normally as possible and if restrictions are in place that affect the enjoyment of a holiday, such as regular covid tests, mask-wearing in all public places, resaurant and bar restrictions, they just won't come, especially if their home countries are demonstrating a semblance of normality.

I may be being pessimistic, but to think that Thailand will drop the majority of the current rules and regulations in four months is probably unrealistic. A test before arrival, fully vaccinated travellers, non-admission from certain severely infecte countries, even covid insurance isn't unreasonable but unless they are prepared to relax many of the other rules people will go elsewhere.

They have 120 days to get this sorted.

Nothing, it's an order from a senior general, it must be obeyed.

well one of the could go wrongs is the ASEAN counties still prefer a nations lockdown. is that a problem for amazing Thailand? a bit as many tourists combine a round trip along the attached border countries.....yet there MUST be a break trough for he tourist sector related economies.

It's like he's in denial that infections of Covid are occuring now. Get ready for the "Foreign tourist blame game" if and when they open up.

Troll post removed.   Please use the correct name for the Covid-19 virus.

Really... is that something on your nose?

again we see the idiot putting finances ahead of the publics safety just like he did at songkran, the thing that started this second wave of covid and made it a lot worse. He wants money flowing into the economy so he looks like he is helping the country out of their predicament but in reality he is just increasing the risks to everyones health, all in the hope to be re elected, hopefully the country will be awake to him this time.

It seems like only yesterday when they were saying how unimportant tourism was to the economy.  ????

This is pure political theatre and nothing more, designed to deflect from the vaccination rollout fiasco and create a positive news story on the front-pages.  Portraying the PM as working hard and doing his best to help and  give hope those millions of poor people who have seen their livelihoods literally disappear.

Well the daily CCSA briefing starts in just under 10 minutes, I wonder how much of the vaccine debacle the English version will ignore today ?

How that bloke can stand on that stage and lie through his teeth as he does is beyond me.

That is the absolute maximum tourists will accept.

If the Thais talk even about three day quarantines or bracelet trackers, they are doomed to failure.

After the dismal vaccine roll-out, he seems to accept that only accepting a degree of risk is going to work. In the meantime concentrate on vaccinating the masses and minimize hospitalizations.

This is the ONLY way to get the country up and running.

You will have naysayers to keep the country closed forever as long as its not their families suffering and starving.

" for more support for domestically manufactured vaccines, for an end to top-down administration through decentralization of power,"

erm - do these 2 aims directly contradict each other? considering who owns the domestic manufacture ....

These clowns don't know what's going on elsewhere, due to their Thailand is the centre of the universe belief.

Over 10000 new cases in the well vaccinated UK in a day with the Indian variant.

Do they really assume it won't come here too, idiots.

It's hardly a "deadline".

The pm simply responded to pressure from his boss(es) and now will beat everyone with the 120 day cudgel.

Oviously he won't come up with a plan, with specific tasks and measurements. He'll just blabber on, then around T -7 days the goal-posts will be adjusted.

A classic from the book: "An Introduction to Incompetent Management".
