Thai social media went ballistic that it was "one rule for us and one rule for them" when two police officers attached to the Rom Klao force in Bangkok were caught having dinner at a "Laap Yaso" restaurant.

The public were out in the street wating for take-aways due to the Covid-19 ban on in-house eating.

The Rom Klao police chief Pol Col Nanthaphoom Reuangrung was contacted by Sanook and explained the entenuating circumstances.

He admitted they were his men and that they were on duty. He said they had greeted the owner of the restaurant who they knew well and who then invited them in for a bite to eat.

Naturally they turned down this request but the owner was insistent imploring them to come in and have some "laap".

Eventually the officers relented and went in for lunch partly because it was lunchtime and one who has underlying health conditions needed to eat something before taking his meds.

No money changed hands, said the chief.

He admitted that it was inappropriate but they had come clean and didn't mean to break the law. He had also spoken to the restaurant owner over the matter.

I am also fully vaccinated. And I am not allowed to go to my favorite restaurants and sit down and eat there. I see a problem.

And no doubt, the customary and mandatory drug tests were done, and they were all immediately charged. And face up to two years and too mutt baht in fines for breaking the "decree". Or maybe it was all a missunderpayment? Ah sitcom Thailand, if only the Pythons had been so good at social commentary comedy.

The cops make the law for who it fits.. and that depend on who it is and where they are... They are sitting on he seats of the Government and judges...They should be better know what the laws are so go to study instead making your own laws

In UK, two traffic patrol areas ended at the junction near my mother's house (hobby fishery) the guys would go frequently for coffee/tea, which my mother provided. I believe the first visit was curiosity.

Obviously , all the restaurant owners fault.....the Police

would do no wrong....right.????

If the policemen were vaccinated I do not see a problem.  LOL

The owner forced them to sit and eat at noodle point.

You can't make this stuff up.

Wasn't there an article about young people who met for a birthday party and they were convicted to 3 years in jail?

Personally I think 3 years in jail is way too much. But on the other hand I think no consequences for the police is also not acceptable.

Well if police are not above the law, who is? (Apart from hiso's, rich people, politicians, army generals, army colonels, retired army generals, senators, people from the prime minister's party etc etc)

So, then it is considered a bribe if they did not pay for their lunch.

Pol Col Nanthaphoom Reuangrung is a strong contender for the Absurd Apology Award of the year.

And of course "red bull boss"

Ooh! I suspect the restaurant owner 'paid them!

  • Popular Post

It doesn’t matter if the meal was paid for or not.  It was a  violation of the Covid restrictions.  And people have been readily fined or arrested for violating those restrictions

Which is worse, really. Should have paid for the meal. Now the restaurant owner has a hold over these coppers.

If coppers cannot say no to a friendly offer of a laap, then they should be fired, in my view.

I'll go out tonight and see if that works for me... if I go quiet for a month or so you know where I am.

I bet the two cops had to pay their boss a 'fine' and it will be more than the cost of some noodles ???? ????

After dinner they checked the local rub and scrub? The mamasan was most insistent too.

Of course! They probably go there for a meal every day and get it free or else the owner might discover there's a problem with his business! A rat infestation or an electrical fault that causes a fire come immediately come to mind. You know how it is. Both are such common problems.
