Foreigners in Thailand have been warned to steer clear of anti-government protests and rallies which have been taking place in Bangkok and other areas of the country.

On Wednesday (Sept 8), Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) said foreigners who join the protests will be prosecuted and face deportation and would also be blacklisted from Thailand, INN reported

Pol Maj Gen Tawichai was speaking following the arrest of 195 people who took part in recent demonstrations in Bangkok.

Pol Maj Gen Tawichai added that those who join the protests increase the risk of spreading COVID-19 are in violation of the Emergency Decree and Communicable Disease Control Act.

One of the people arrested was found to be a Cambodian national, which prompted the police to issue the warning to foreigners in Thailand.

Pol Maj Gen Tawichai said that those arrested will be charged with violating the Emergency Decree and Communicable Disease Control Act.

He said that if those arrested are found to be juveniles, their parents also face being prosecuted.

If for no other reason it will be an attempt to avoid international outcry if a foreigner is killed when tactics get more nasty. It has precedent. I wonder what the approach is to foreign Journalists this time around?

That does not make sense. By all means arrest him/her for breaking covid rules but what has their nationality got to do with anything and why do they have to "warn" foreigners specifically?

Pathetic excuse of a government. A government who threatens their citizens and their guests is not a legitimate government.

Pesky foreigners-I bet that ONE protester found so far [if indeed they were protesting rather than standing by watching or just going about their daily life] is the tip of a foreign plot to overthrow Thai society.

Be vigilant Thailand, the foreigners are trying to trick you into democracy...

Shouldn't need to say this, but sarcasm alert

True to a degree.

I just wonder if there even is a law?

This sounds like policy on the hoof (I recognize it, coming from the UK)

The Thai Constitutional laws are not for foreigners, only Thai nationals.

Not surprise at all, didn't expect any other statement to come out the mouth of a Thai official, been here long enough to be told several time that this is Thailand, not your country, so again, typical Thai attitude toward foreignness...

British Consulate says Thai Govt. (not Embassy) is responsible for safety of Brits here here. That protection would be conditional upon Brits complying with thai laws and with thai govt. application of those laws.

Such govt. warnings are within thai law. All Foreigners are guests here.

Follow the rules, or else. Do not interfere. Mind your own business.

Like or not they are right. Not sure why foreigners think they got the right to protest and all kind of other rights not to follow certain rules for covid as an example. They always seem to think they are special want to stand up for their rights. What rights.

I mean you know what kind of country this is you either accept it or leave trying to change it can cause you serious trouble.

I might not like a lot of the rules but I am not stupid enough to make a fuzz at officials or cause scenes. Its not as if you have power. Only thing is vote with your feet deprive them of your spending.

Al we can do is vent a bit on a forum and that is it.

I agree 100% Personally I don't care what these people do, not my problem and doesn't effect me one way or the other. I respect their laws and go on about my merry way living an easy life and doing what I came here for.

Unfortunately many protests always seem to end up with some kind of violence

It is in the nature of the beast...throw in a few agent provocateurs and one or two hot heads......light the blue touch paper and stand back.

What about us foreigners who express their view on various news websites like this one? If so, these sites won't be worth following and the rascals who have said naughty things about the government will be sent packing. To leave their wives and children to the mercy of the thought police for attitude adjustment. Many of us rascals have lived here from long before most of the protesters were born and maybe have a better perspective as to why they are protesting. Thailand = Freeland= oxymoron.
