Tourism minister hopes New Year appearances of world famous artists in Thailand will inspire the young and the disabled

Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn says that he is also looking at the non-financial benefits of the planned appearances of two world famous artists, Thai-born pop artist Lalisa “Lisa” Manobal of South Korea’s girl group band “Blackpink” and Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli at the New Year countdowns in Bangkok and Phuket respectively.

Explaining his logic, the minister said he might think differently from people who only consider financial gain, to determine whether a project is worthwhile, noting the 200 million baht price tag for the appearances of the two famous artists.

The economic figure is just one element, he said, adding that he also looks at the confidence boost to be gained from this event, which cannot be measured in monetary terms alone.

Why do so many on here see this as an either/or situation?

Just how are Lisa and a fat opera singer going to inspire the young and disabled by singing ?

Another straw bobs past down the Chao Prayha river, just out of reach!

As I said before, about the only positive thing is that Signor Bocelli can sing jolly loudly, so even with proper social distancing everyone will still be able to hear him!

Is he suggesting that Lisa is disabled, I hope not, she is HOT, as for Andrea Bochelli (he is not fat, he is blind) you maybe are thinking of the late Luciano Pavarotti.

Concerts at year end sort of goes against the words of out great leader re 'keeping your guard up. No alcohol, large groups or parties' etc.

That is without even discussing social distancing and making everyone stick to their 2 square meters.

This man only sees money... pure BS, he doesn't give a rats behind about anything else.

You might want to "google" Andrea Bochelli he's the blind opera singer, his now deceased friend was the rotund singer Pavarotti.

The 'talentless bimbo' who was the only one of thousands successful at interview in Thailand by YG entertainment when just 14, trained for 5 years then becoming a member of the most successful Asian girl group ever, much admired for her dancing, Her recent single got a record 73.6 million views in 24 hours and her album sold over 700k in Korea in a week and worth an estimated $10 million, not bad for a 'bimbo' !

Inspire them to do what? Learn Italian while eating Buriram meatballs?

Money well spent then...

I see he might go down well with the visually impaired then but I though it was about encouraging tourists?

It is unlikely to inspire the disabled that are swept out of town to not taint their appearances.

Don’t be too impressed by the numbers. She is still a brainless doll. A talentless one.

What could inspire disabled people is for them to be able to access almost anything, or even use footpaths. If you care about disabled people then you need lifts and ramps not just in BKK ! Oh and maybe singing lessons.

Open the sanatorium the minister said non financial benefits ????

Who also speaks 5 languages ????

If you need inspiration by disabled persons, why not give more shows around the disabled olympians???? Taht are Thai people who can inspire.... Not a blind singer or a thai born singer from a girlish Korean group

First came the idiotic idea.

Now comes the rationalization, "We're doing it for the children".

Pro tip: open the schools, and maybe a tad less indoctrination.

Many on thai social media are clamoring for the money to be used more wisely, like vaccines.

But 200 mm does buy a lot of lipstick.

Standing out for New Year's celebrations is challenging. Sydney, Dubai, Paris, London, NYC all garner the press. Yes, Lalisa will get a ton of coverage, but will that break through?

Just one more example of Phiphat the bimbo, being lost in space. His wealth, and his Ivory Tower existence blinds him from seeing what is going on here. With the kind of economic devastation these fools have wreaked across the nation, there are far more important projects than spending 200 million baht, to attract 50,000 tourists.

And how on earth would this event cost that much anyway?

Ok, I'm not even going into the discussion about any Artists, no alcohol, no tourists, etc...

But most youngsters and their parents are living quiet on their limit right now. And the care for the Disabled is absolutely appalling to say the least!

Put the money elsewhere!

And all crowds limited to no more than 500 people as mandated.

Fat opera singer...:? he has lost quite a lot of weight and although he is not Pavarotti ( who was quite heavy). he does have a reputation. As for the inspiration, it might take root in the fact that the guy is blind

Now, I am not saying that he will, nor that the price tag is justified

Not unusual and this has nothing to do with brains. It is a gift.

Not saying the girl is brainless as I do not know her, in every sense of the term

It would have been smarter to invite a famous "chinese" singer.

Probably 20 Trillion Chinese would have travelled to Thailand.
