At least 14 people were killed and 35 others injured when a tour bus left the road and crashed into a tree in Thap Sakae, Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The incident took place at around 1am on Tuesday (Dec 5) and involved a Bangkok-Nathawi passenger bus, which veered off the road and collided with a tree near Petchkasem Road, close to the entrance to Hat Wanakorn National Park.

Thap Sakae is approximately 2 hours by car from Hua Hin.

The accident was reported to Police Lieutenant Anan Totung of Huay Yang Police Station. Emergency services, including rescue units from Tab Sakae Hospital, Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital, and foundations like Sawang Roong Rueng Tham and Sawang Prachuap Tham, were immediately dispatched to the site.

yet more senseless loss of life on Thailands dangerous roads, you can make a guess what caused this to happen - driver fatigue - speeding - lack of driving skills - mobile phone use - mechanical failure etc etc etc but the fact remains - at least 14 people are dead due to all or a combination or one of the above

RIP

Crashes weekly i would guess but usually minor. Night buses are scary.

The investigation will probably conclude that brake failure was to blame.

The driver, if he survived will probably walk away with nothing more than a slapped wrist.

R.I.P to all the deceased.

You know it's a really bad one when there is no "the driver fled the scene." at the end.

yeah right the driver was probably reckless and swerving around cars at the fastest speed possible. They're too stupid or don't have enough emotional control to drive at safe speeds for the road conditions. We've all seen it a million times.

What stumps me are the 3 'confused' reaction to my post above, what is there to be confused about guys or you don't understand the point i'm trying to make?

Domestic or foreign tourists? It's usually stated in these type of stories. Hmmmm.

Beautiful bus, beautiful people no more. So tragic.

I have been on many bus trips around Thailand over nine years  and i must say that the driving has been good to excellent .

Mini bus drivers are a different breed all together . Avoid them if you can .

Your "point" sounds like you are justifying this horrific 'accident'. That is sure to "confuse" other members. There is no justification. Such frequent 'accidents' are unnecessary.

Really? is that what you got from my post? justifying a horrible accident? you need to learn how to read posts and their true meaning before posting rubbish insinuations...

Can't remember from the last time I travelled by coach (it was NakonChaiAir), are there seatbelts fitted?

It happened at 1am so I think the most likely cause was the driver dozing off. We read that Thais can sleep anywhere, anytime, and we read often that some manage to do it when driving. That should be impossible if you are concentrating on your driving, but difficult if you have the attention span of a goldfish.

Why do reports here always refer to these as tour buses when they are not. This was a regular passenger service, not on a tour.

The Tachograph will show all :whistling:   , When will they make it law to fit them to all HGVs and PSVs along with dash cams. Over to you PM and your so called Transport Minister who only seems concerned with Airports.

If you dont know, dont be skeptical. Saying this doesnt help the situation. There could be many reasons the Bus/Driver had this unfortunate accident

These fibreglass tour buses are a death trap .

Drivers are lunatics and need to be reminded they are carrying people not cattle or aggregates.

Drive way to fast and don't anticipate the road conditions!

Rip poor people.

Are you trolling or actually serious? Thailand usually has the highest road death rate per capita year on year, so yeah, it happens pretty darn often here.

Well, it wasn't necessary but I just read your post again. My comment stands. And BTW bud, my reading and comprehension skills are quite good. There is no justification for this many multi-fatality bus 'mishaps'. Yes, 'mishaps', not accidents.

Again if you dont know then pipe up. Nationality does not depict if you fall asleep or not.

Do you base that on anything rational or empirical?

On foot, like me, by bike, scooter, motorbike, Van, bus etc... we are in danger of death every second. I always walk against the flow of traffic. Sidewalks are rare in Thailand and if there are they are cluttered with restaurant tables, scooters and so on. A little discipline please!
