Thailand has recorded its first case of the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19, but there is no cause for concern over its severity, drug or vaccine resistance as the disease being closely monitored, according to Dr. Chawetsan Namwat, director of the Division of Disease Control and Emergency Health Hazards at Disease Control Department (DCD), yesterday (Monday).

 

He did not elaborate about the case, but said that the Department of Medical Science will hold a press conference on Tuesday to provide more details.

 

Dr. Chawetsan said that, over the past 28 days, Delta Plus cases in the United Kingdom have increased, accounting for 6% of all the infections involving other variants, mostly the Delta variant.

Well with china locking down and can not travel in land  and the rest of the world opening up it's as if the chinese know something. Tighten your belts going to get very bumpy I think

No cause for alarm. This government has nothing but the best interests of the people at heart. They never show favoritism, they always hire the most qualified and the most experienced, cronyism is never a factor, and their level of transparency and honesty places them at the top of the world rankings. Please do not worry.

That's what they said earlier this year... didn't pan-out too well.

Feels like we're in the rinse/repeat cycle?

 

Hopefully continued vaccinations/boosters can hold this AY variant at bay.

 

But this feels eerily similar to the Songkran epoch.

Can't wait for the media fearmongering hype.

 

Meanwhile everyone who can read statistics realizes they have a near 0 chance of dying from covid given that they aren't elderly with multiple comorbidities.

 

Which approach this time?  Shut down everything and local vaccine passports?  Or can we just continue on like normal and everyone can take their individual precautions.  The vaccines work remember!

Not often we get to follow a story from Patient Zero; first one in Thailand. I wonder where PZ came from, which country, how long PZ been in Thailand, why wasn't he caught prior to boarding the plane. Who else has PZ been in contact with, did they catch Delta+ ? Lots of details need to be given out; wonder if they will be. Of course PZ has to be a farang.

Thailand is reopening on November 1st, and will be welcoming Delta Plus with open arms.
