Hua Hin has been confirmed as a destination for Thailand’s new high speed train project, the government has announced.

Confirmation of whether or not a Hua Hin would be included in the project has been somewhat of a stop start process.

Recent years have seen several new high speed rail development projects proposed throughout Thailand, some of which have included Hua Hin as a potential destination.

However, up until recently, any concrete plans had remained firmly on the drawing board.

Thailand desperately needs high speed trains and alternative forms of transport. The highways here are choked with trucks of all sizes, due to decades of neglect, on the part of officials, to come up with alternative ways to move cargo. All major cities should be linked by high speed rail. Hua Hin would be a good place to start. And while they are at it, put that airport to work. It is one of the least utilized airports in the world. Why, has remained a mystery, though we have heard rumors.

Laos has a high speed train. Thailand is considered a developed nation. I say no. Bangkok, sure. But the rest of the nation is third world, or developing, depending on how PC you are.

Let's not put the cart before the horse! Thailand desperately needs a modern twin track railway line from Bangkok to the Malaysian border. The line from Singapore to Padang Basar is now twin track with overhead electrics. North of the border it's still the original 1920 single track with passing points and diesel. Some 10% of Thailand's trade is with Malaysia, most of that currently goes by road.

I'd like to see TH manage 1 full year without a derailment.  That alone would be an accomplishment.  Had 1 just this week, and of course, that was the fault of the rain ...

... or did the brakes fail

... maybe micro-sleep

... dog ran out in front of me, was always my favorite ????

Thailand cant even manage a low speed train service ! Got no chance of this ever happening.

If it does arrive then it will be parked up on a siding as a novelty attraction....

This has only been just confirmed? Sure? So why from Bangkok to Hua Hin are there new tracks and most stations are being rebuilt and many bridges built over the railway lines in Hua Hin?? Surely the plans have been in place for years.

Hua Hin to get high speed train by 2032

If this was China: Hua Hin to get high speed train by 2032 2023

1000 baht plane tickets

But yeah fast train might work but needs to go near Phuket.

Is that so people can leave the place quicker?

Could be. HH isnt that good.

In that case, which I agree with, they need to extend the service to Phuket, which is also a s.... hole

Since no trains go to Phuket now, I wouldn't hold my breath.  Phuket has easy airport access, Hua Hin does not, and present trains, even when new faster service starts up soon, isn't much of an advantage, time wise, over driving from Krung Thep.  Unless you have no need for a car once there.

I think that you may have slightly missed my point. If it was up to me, I would want to leave both Phuket and HH as quickly as possible, not get to either place.  Any form of transport that achieves that objective is good.

More accurately, China has a "high speed" (so to speak) train in Laos. Huge difference.

Thailand must have been told by Japan that it will have an old high speed train that is flogged out and past its use by date to donate for free to the kingdom by 2032.

Hua Hin to get high speed train by 2032

10 years before start of operation?

It took 7 years to complete what was regarded in its day as the UK's first "high speed railway" between Liverpool and Manchester (1823 - 1830)!!!

A large crowd standing in a deep railway cutting. On the railway tracks are three elaborately decorated carriages and a number of small locomotives.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opening_of_the_Liverpool_and_Manchester_Railway#:~:text=Within ten years%2C 1%2C775 miles,10%2C000 km) were in place.

High speed trains will require an upgrade to broad gauge track and electrification.

So for most of us in our 60's and over, that's "never".

By the way whatever happened to Hua Hin resident poster NCC-1701 ?

Hope he's still alive and well somewhere.

It would be a good idea to actually finish some mega projects instead of continually announcing new ones.

M6 - Bangkok - Korat Motorway now 3 years past its scheduled completion date - just one example.

I would think a high speed train would be elevated?

If not it will cut Thailand in half length wise, most Thai people will not like that.

Drove past the new station they are building in Hua Hin yesterday it is huge and looks like its going to be really smart, its almost next door to the existing station.
