Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Hi dudes, I'm living in this condo where there's many owners of lux cars.

So I Google the price of Porsche in Thailand and iz around 10mb and in states it's only 3mb for the same model.

What's up yall??

They wanna highlight they  blinged or woot?? Or are they mental enough to buy 3 times the price??

Can this beast will reach 50000km? I know Toyota would for sure.

They feeling good when ppl drooling at their lifestyle being watched on Instagram?

I'm guessing all da hisos and the actors riding this beasts got this vibe.

I'm only assuming, cuz I dont have acquaintances that got da money.

What u peeps image bout this tossers?

I so wanna drill my mark on their fresh looking cars on a rainy day cuzzz. U feel me?

You know what they say "if you need to ask the price......"

Here I agree seems crazy for these cars add BMW and MBZ some 2 or 3 times the price.

People all over the world want to flaunt that they are rich whether they are or not.

Makes them feel important I guess but deep down, probably very insecure.

And to moan about the "price" is ridiculous. We all know why, import duty and tax.

A papaya is 20-40 baht in Thailand and 400+ in the UK!

As for your "image" question.

Approximate Thai pecking order for posing:

McLaren, Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, Bmw.

(Bentley and Rolls - Old Man's cars)

U nailed it, they can pay that much, to get a lot of face. While we can only look up the price on Internet, and get back to our Issan wives.

Gone into your Ali G persona again.

Just compensating for other short comings is my guess.

Having a Porsche is impractical if you live upcountry as the only dealer is in Bangkok. Imagine getting service if you live in Chiang Mai or Trang.

There are many other reasons it is impractical.

Bought for face only.

Porsche is considered a prestige brand here, higher than Merc/BMW/Audi.

The reason is they're all imported while Merc/BMW have locally-made models. Because of this there's a high tax on them (up to 350%) making them expensive making people feel they're valuable. This doesn't make them any better though, just more expensive.

If you're not interested in showing off though, you can get much better value for an equivalent car from Mercedes or BMW.

Maybe a different mentality in Far East, I was telling one of my suppliers

in Taiwan , about if you buy a Mercedes Benz in UK ,your workers will not

like you, think you bought it off their hard work, he  said if the owner of a

company there buys expensive car, his workers will be very proud and happy.

If the people have money or have access to credit , they can buy what they

want, .......but the 18 year old with a Porsche or other high powered motor,

don't seem to last long ,too much to handle.

One of the reasons that we don’t have one is because can’t get the golf clubs and the suitcases in.

AIr-cooled or water-cooled? ????

Probably like Porsche owners elsewhere. Unique, dedicated, passionate?

(I happened to walk by a pre-drive gathering in Bangkok before COVID, and a bright yellow 2004 GT caught my eye. I complimented the owner on this car, and he seemed like a perfectly nice, normal, unpretentious person. Just one sample so hardly indicative of a trend. )

The only safe place to drive it would be inside Icon Siam during lockdown

Only English on this forum please.

Personally speaking, Ive never been able to compehend why ownership of a sports car in Thailand is desirable. Especially Bangkok. How fast can you go on an average day in Sukhumvit?

Better off on a Honda Wave.

A reported troll post in poor taste has been removed

You know, or maybe don't know, there are people out there who know spelling and grammar and people who make a lot of money. If they like Porsche and buy them, why not?

Porsche are quality cars. They are fast, and they are also good for everyday use.

Please have a look at used cars which tuners like. They cost a fortune in Thailand. Because they can't be legally imported into Thailand.

Personally I had my BMWs and I drove a Porsche on the Autobahn, after that it doesn't make much sense to buy one in Thailand. But if people like them and can afford them, why not? Personally I think it makes more sense to buy a nice car instead of expensive designer watches or designer bag or jewelry.

Maybe it's because where you come from you can't work out the fact there rich tossers.

These days Sukhumvit is almost empty. 200km/h should be possible - but of course it wouldn't be a good idea.

I live close to a motorway, between Rama 4 and Sukhumvit. I can hear super- and hyper-cars screaming up and down the motorway in the early hours.

Based on the Doppler effect, wicked fast.

They're not paying "three times the price", they're paying normal Thai prices.   Car prices in other countries are irrelevant to car prices in Thailand just as Thai prices are irrelevant to prices in, say, Zimbabwe, for example.

What makes someone who can afford expensive cars any more of a "tosser" than people who "wanna dri....", er, never mind.

A very subjective view of "value" that depends on your budget!

To this I agree 100%, been there and done that.  The other days I was a basket case worried about some motorbike running into my Cayenne.  Sold it and repatriated the money back to the states.
