Maybe try what I would do - find some Walking Street virgins and take them on a tour. When you see their amazement, it always spills over to you. Sharing is caring.

Walking street as it once was is now consigned to memories and history.

A much tamer version of it may emerge in some form for tourist dollars and/or the professionals relocate to another soi, but it will never be truly "gone" as long as there is a demand someone will supply it, thats why its the worlds oldest profession.

Well I voted that its over permanently as being a commercial sex oriented zone. To me its obvious that's something for a bit inland. I understand people's skepticism about this but I'm a little surprised that the majority don't agree that it's over.  As far as what I would prefer I do prefer the big proposed changes as hetero fleshpot Walking Street was never my scene except for the seaside dining. 

 

The gay equivalent to this question is whether South Pattaya Boyztown is permanently finished as well. I think most probably but I'm less sure about that as Chinese ladies used to love the place.

No one is saying they are going to stop prostitution.  However, it is highly likely that given the new tourism of cruise ships and families that Walking street as we knew it is dead.

 

Then again before anyone had heard of covid the owners were complaining that business was dead.

Let's face it the area is grungy and run down there really is noting there for a tourist.

Loved Pattaya and Walking Street when I first went there (long after travelling to other parts of Thailand) in 2000. After 2002 it went downhill, with the girls' attitudes dramatically changing, more pollution, etc. I still went there infrequently until 2016. I'm not looking back. R.I.P. Walking Street!

Was a regular until 2013(ish)... yeah it started to turn to expensive <deleted>... when the agency girls started to become more common... I stop going, much more fun trolling the beer bars looking for a gem.

 

but now we have Thai friendly and having tasty poontang arrive on the door step is soo soo much better.

Supply and demand? I await getting past Covid and the return of Thai tourism before getting enough indication as to the direction. I had my time there and am happily settled so it will mean nothing to me … except very fond memories!

There will always be money to be made in sex and booze. Especially if you can combine the two.

Just as it seems there will always be a never ending supply of poor "Isaan" farm girls who have basically 2 options in life. Stay home, work in the rice field and be poor the rest of their lives - or go to the "big city" and get a job where you can make more in a year than your parents made in their entire lives.

And considering most of those farm girls will be lucky if they have the equivalent of a Grade 8 education, any other job they can get is going to be minimum wage slave labour. Like working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week waiting on tables or cleaning bathrooms or "construction" work.
Kind of hard to live on, even if they don't have 1 or 2 babies back home being cared for by mom and grandma.

Once the tourists start coming back, you can be sure a lot of them will want the same things they wanted before. Sunshine and warm weather during the day. Lots of booze and sexy women at night.

They weren't called "2 week millionaires" because they shared 1 beer with 4 friends.  And the bar/go-go owners know that. So do the "mamasans" and "older sisters" back in the villages.

I seriously doubt that those owners are going to give up on all that easy money without a fight.

Walking Street has been growing ever since it has been a street (literally) and it's had it's reputation for generations. Been a lot of gov'ts come and go (and be deposed of) in that time, with many of them "vowing" to end the sex trade in Thailand (and getting rid of Walking Street) and the only thing that has, so far, been successful is this virus.

Once that has been contained, things will start rolling again and once the cash registers start filling up again, the "powers that be" will most likely "forget" that they wanted to get rid of Walking Street in the first place.

Keep in mind. You may "think" that all those bars are owned by foreigners because you know one or two owners but the truth is, the land is owned by locals who lease it to those "bar owners". Most of the other businesses are owned by locals, either outright or on leaseholds as well.

I recall many years ago it was mentioned that almost all of "Walking Street" was owned (the land itself) by just 7 families. And the "108" owners of the bars/restaurants/shops on the water side of the street also control a lot of money and influence. Which is why the place hasn't been bulldozed despite all the stories over the years about different gov't's planning on renovating that area.

They aren't going to want to see their cash cows (those "2 week millionaires") wander too far away if they can help it.

(And yes, I do know a couple of Thais that own bars and restaurants on Walking Street. They are itching to get things rolling again and want to get back to the "glory days".)

Pattaya has the advantage of being close to the main airport, the capital, and having the sea and beaches.....as well as being fun.... Khon Kaen. Korat... strewth string me up!

No it will recover gradually over time but we're looking probably 5 years to get back to 2019 levels

It will still be there but not in your face, just as well if the cruise liner pier gets built, 2000 men with there wives in Pattaya for 24 hours not good for anyone.
