PHUKET: The hours that restaurants and other “eateries” across Phuket will be allowed to serve alcohol has been revised, and no longer allows alcohol to be served throughout the mid-afternoon.

Under the new order, restaurants and other “eateries” ‒ that is, any venue with a permit to serve food ‒ may serve alcohol from 11am to 2pm and from 5pm to 11pm only, starting Nov 16.

The new rules, signed into effect by order of Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew, were announced in Phuket Provincial Order No. 7188/2554, posted online earlier today (Nov 15).

You really think that someone who wants a beer with a meal in the afternoon needs to go to AA? Really? Or do you just want to demonstrate how ignorant you are?

I was there a few weeks ago and the beer bars at the southern end of Patong were in full swing.  Hardly eateries.

The unelected Governor is using covid as an excuse to impose draconian rules. Does he actually want tourists? It probably doesn't affect his income stream.

How many "restaurants" are actually busy at those times, I mean packed to the rafters with customers that may pose a major risk of infection? I'd say precisely zero!

Apart from the odd brunch, I rarely drunk in those hours myself while in Phuket but as a tourist, a beer or cocktail by the pool in the afternoon goes down very well.

I'm missing Phuket but i certainly don't miss the jokers running the place.

Well done again,

No fun in the afternoon.

I used to go Chang mai a lot and they did the same ,so I just stay home and save my money.

Every day they they destroy themselves.

This is just a return to the national licencing hours, so basically falling into line with the rest of the country.

However, these national rules came into effect 12-15 years ago to copy the UK, about 15-20 years AFTER the UK abolished the law. And the UK only had the law to stop bomb makers in WWII from poor (and potentially fatal) workmanship. Because making bombs when sleepy or tipsy probably aint so safe!

Well done, Thailand! The land of fools!

More crazy rules/hoops for restaurants/bars to follow.

No late afternoon sit down lunches for me.

Is the consumption of alcohol really related to the spread of the Virus ?

Not directly . only if people sit together , drink and talk ...

But they often talk together without consuming alcohol .

So , sitting and talking together should consequently be forbidden as well ...

Hypocrites .

Completely insane administration running this island!.

I see the drunks have a new squeaky toy to chew on.   People without a drinking problem certainly would not be upset they can't drink in bars/restaurants from 2-5.

If you don't think you can make it that long before the shakes start you can always have some sangsom stashed away.  Maybe get one of those pocket flasks to keep you going during those 3 long hours in the afternoon.

Based on the amount the doomers and drama queens around here are chewing on this new squeaky toy it certainly sounds that way.

What about them? Those are not the people on here all the time looking for any excuse to constantly complain about everything.

Wow the 'thousands' of tourists that are on their way are going to have a ball in Thailand - Thailand Pass, tests, insurance, 1 night quarantine, antigen test kits.....................................

Pay 100 baht for a test to enter Khao San Road (and god knows where else before long)

Can't drink during the afternoon in Phuket.

Yes, the Grand Re-opening - a real holiday to remember.

Fair one, but I do find the teatotalers on here can get bent out of shape too.

It is a strange rule though, a step backwards for the adults out there.

If you stay up on that high horse too long you'll get vertigo.  Just remember who this 'Grand Re-Opening' is supposed to be targetting - holiday makers.  Holiday makers may or may not want a drink in the afternoon - what they don't want is to be told they can't.

We know that many restrictions are still in place but I doubt tourists read Aseannow much. The 'Amazing Thailand' ads are back on UK TV and this time it truly is amazing - amazing if you can find anything open.

The damage they are doing to future repeat trips will be significant - it would be better to just stay closed until they are actually ready to open. They announce the re-opening then slowly start introducing restrictions - how does that work then?

This Is Thailand!!!!!  And Phuket is part of Thailand.

   Geezer

I always understood that Covid napped from 2pm to 5pm...so what's all the fuss about?
