Anutin declares he's ready to be the next Prime Minister of Thailand

Maybe it depends if you think that the word farang is racist?

Can't speak for the younger and less enlightened of course but to those farangs that have been here since Methuselah, it's not.

(he says while donning his hard hat and slipping on some kevlar)

It depends on the context in which it is used.

If it used to generalise a racial group in a derogatory manner then it is racist.

  • I was nearly beginning to think that things couldn’t get any worse in Thailand, until I read this.

  • Thank heavens I am leaving. I can't take much more of Thai politics.

  • This is NOT good news. Anutin is the same guy who was blaming "caucasians" for spreading Covid 19. His candidacy can only mean bad things for expats.

Forgive me, could you elaborate how does it impact you whether HE gets in? Your life in Thailand will get completely changed, will get you down?

I, for myself, if I haven't read a falang forum I would not know that he has said that or whatever. (And I do not read Thai news, do you?)

No, 'farang' is often used as 'foreign'. Thais even call themselves "farang" sometimes, even  'farang kee nok'.

If someone shower less than another,it is not derogatory. It's common knowledge that people from colder climates shower less. Is it racist saying that Mongolians and Tibetans shower once during the winter?

This is pure BS I have never in 20 years heard a Thai call themselves a farang.Stop wriggling and admit you were wrong to start this.

He never actually said "dirty farang", this was made up by English gutter press.

he did say farang don't shower as much as Thais, which is true.

Depends on the farang.  https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2015/02/how-often-people-in-various-countries-shower/385470/

Agree with you entirely.

Having healthy cleaning habits does not depend on the nationality of each one, it depends on the person himself and those who say that some are cleaner than others depending on their nationality or race, are so stupid that the first thing they had to do is cleaning your mouth with bleach

Just when I though things could not get much worse.  In case you doubt that he is a real possibility, he has the full support of that other pillar of Thai society …. and I am not talking about the army.

No need for insults, it's common knowledge.

Are you saying farang shower as many times as Thais or just being argumentative?

Since most farangs come from far cooler climes, one would expect them to skip a shower or two.

Chok dee Mr. Anutin, I'm sure there will be the full and fair democratic election process with multiple and very capable others running and the Thai people will decide.............

Why? I think he'd be much better than the current one, and most of the previous ones like Taxsin who raised visas for foreigners by 290%

Careful what you wish for. Would it affect anyone if retirement requirements were pushed up to 2 million year round, eg? Don’t get the blind hatred for Thaksin. He was a tool but is nothing compared to this lot. And Anutin is the cream of the crop. Would you really want someone as impetuous running the country?

If that happens maybe it's time to look at pastures new.

Does throwing a bucket of water over your head while wearing a sarong qualify as a shower?

If that title isn't enough to make you want to depart to some friendlier shores ... like North Korea

I don't think Thailand is ready for him.

As the saying goes,

"Over my dead body"

I think Thailand will be looking  for a democratic leader if there's no cheating.

Seems to be the normal (wrong) way things are done here....put a very rich know it all in charge of something he knows absolutely nothing about and then move him upwards into an even more serious job he knows even less about !

All very predictable Thai Politics; and in my opinion things are going to get a lot worse before there is any hope of them getting any better.

It's all very well becoming the chief without any ideas, as long as you surround yourself with a brilliant team who do.

I hope he's learnt something from Prayuts mistakes.
