French nationals in Thailand who are aged over 55 will be able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine free of charge via the French Embassy in Bangkok.

On Monday (June 21), the French Ambassador to Thailand, Thierry Mathou announced that the French Embassy has partnered with private hospitals in Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Ko Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Udon Thani to provide free vaccinations to some French nationals  living in Thailand.

Those aged over 55 will be eligible to receive the vaccine.

The vaccine will be the single dose Johnson & Johnson which is approved for use in France and also in Thailand.

More details, including the dates the vaccines will be available, as well as which hospitals will be administering the vaccines, will be announced on the embassy website soon.

Mr Mathou said the vaccination campaign implemented by the French Embassy in Thailand is “unprecedented”, not only in Thailand but across France's network embassies around the world.

Earlier this month, Mr Mathou met with Thailand’s Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to request permission to import 10,000 doses of the Johnson  & Johnson vaccine.

Nah, they are far too busy sipping their Pimm's no 1 and eating Ferrero Rocher.

Seriously, the British Embassy should get off their backsides and arrange something similar for UK expats.  You might think that they would be shamed into doing something but I guess that the chances of anything happening are slim to none!

So long as your mum accompanies you to the hospital

Looks like they will be importing the vaccine themselves, possibly coming in by a French Attaché with a courier crate.  I would think that in order to ensure it is done as greed upon they would then need to send a representative to each of the hospitals partnered up with and with the vaccine in hand on the day of the vaccination jab to ensure the French Nationals get the J&J  and not sinovac....just my view

If accompanied by both parents......!

Seriously, I find this very positive for the French... good for them.

Good for me and the other French people; if they can do it, it's that it's  possible; I imagine the Thais are happy, they won't have to take care of this

10 days ago, some people here said that it was windy, that it would never work; you should never speak in advance, when you don't know

Bit harsh. I was one of the folk stating that it would not work and that they were grandstanding.

And now (above) am more than happy to applaud them.

I realize that's a typo but maybe as a result of too many 'brown envelope' posts on the brain

So much for the "How could it be done?" argument.

Easy, import the vaccine and pay Thai hospitals to administer it.

I will gladly pay for both the vaccine and a cover charge for the Thai hospital.

Been my plan all along.

Let private enterprise into any situation and profit motive will get things moving.

10k per shot of preferred vaccine given at private hospital ......sign me up.

I'll bring the gf also.

Can't beat a good bit of shaming to wake people up.

One more slap in the face for the 'plan'.

Picked the perfect time too as the hospitals have plenty of free time at the moment.

Well done France.

The French had to do it really otherwise their fishing boats would have stormed Thailand and there'd be sheep burning

When i said it before all the Brits were laughing saying the French would never do it. Seems they are far more competent then the Brits. (and Dutch for that matter).

Maybe next time wait before making anti French jokes when they clearly outperformed the UK in this.

Sacre bleu! Great wine, great cheese and now great vaccines. You beat my country, England. Happy for you all!

How many have they vaccinated in Thailand?

Is the J&J already in the country?

At home they seem to be lagging well behind the UK wrt vaccinations.
