That's what happens when you don't restrict travel outside of cluster areas.

  • Well many on here have said 20,000 in August and it is definitely heading there. Now over 4000 deaths and tomorrow into the 500,000 club for total infections on the covid charts. Complete and utter mi

On the Channel 34 news they are now showing the Phetchabun Chicken factory and talking about over 3k cases there now.  They are building a large warehouse style building now to house those that have Covid.  Seems the factories are and have always been a Covid breeding factory.

People here often ask what the government could do to help stop the spread of the virus, here is an obvious tactic:

Require construction sites and factories to test new employees 24 hours before they start work.

Out of the more than 33,000 temples in #Thailand, the prime minister’s office has revealed that 593 of them have agreed to carry out free cremations of bodies that were infected with #COVID19. There are 62 temples in Bangkok, 124 in neighbouring provinces, and 407 elsewhere.

Enough for 2,000 deaths a day.

There can’t be any surprise in seeing these numbers surely? It’s a natural consequence of the deliberate strategy followed by the government. In that sense, it is not mismanagement, simply what they chose to do. And I would say, encouraged to do so by many of their advisors.

mismanagement is to be found in the vaccine program. They have fallen well short of the numbers they targeted and promised.

I fear for the numbers of daily deaths. That figure may rise fairly sharply over the next couple of weeks.

If we had the western vaccines, the infected rate would be close to this but the death rate would fall. Isn't that what we all wish for?

Any explanation as to why these measures have made the situation so much worse?

Those measures have not made it worse, its the idiots travelling around the country that has made it worse.

I shudder to ask this, but what stricter measures have they even got left in the bag at this point?

Measures taken have already turned what was a nice place into a dystopian hellhole of boredom. What is there even left to close?

Maybe close all 7-11s, no street food and no taxis or motorbikes?

They won't count. But, if your kit tests positive, you can then get a test at a lab or hospital or testing site.

Local district hospitals in Chiayaphum are doing them for free and it takes two hours for results.

They managed it pretty well for a month around April 2020

You mean when they weren’t testing?

Some of the anti-lockdown people point to the fact that Thailand has so many road deaths that the virus just isn't a big deal.

They fail to understand that lockdowns also serve to reduce road deaths.

In a country without a comprehensive welfare system or furlough scheme pro-lockdown people fail to understand not being able to work increase poverty and hunger.

How many people in Chiang Mai have caught it I can’t say the number to Chiang Mai

If you assume the numbers are accurate, then around 1 in 140 Thais have been infected so far.

Which is still significantly less than 1 in 10 in the US or the UK.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the figures have already surpassed 20 million they the government haven't got a clue as the daily testing is inadequate as for bringing in more Chinese rubbish why do the government persist when they are fully aware that it’s not of high enough quality The PM and the rest of the clowns have sat on there backsides for well over a year being more interested in Submarines, Trains and raising taxes on woman’s tampons and I even forgot to mention the space project yet we see dead bodies on the streets of Bangkok due to there incompetence

Wow !

Only 9 Days to see an increase of roughly 50 % in the reported Infections number.

This Delta Variant aint hanging around, and with very few Vaccines, things will not get any better soon.

This thinking is not exactly accurate because it takes in numbers from the UK and the USA from the beginning and we all know how poorly they managed the pandemic then. New daily infections per capita Thailand is on par with the USA as of now. USA has about 5 times the population and yesterday had 67.5k new infections. Yesterday Thailand had 14.5k. 14,500x5=72,500.

I seem to remember an outbreak here in Phuket caused by an open air beach club event, only a couple of months ago.

I am not throwing any opinion in here but yes, your memory is correct but most of the same group allegedly then continued the party in an indoor night club. So it was crowded outdoors and indoors!!

Will be interesting to see if this long weekend along with holiday Wednesday and possible day off Tuesday will show up over next few weeks with significant growth of cases in the proviences.

Not really a lockdown to inter provience travel.

We don't need testing to tell us that things were a lot better than. Hospital ICU units and critical care beds weren't in short supply.

So are these factory positive tests included in today's totals or will that show up later.

That is an unknown.  I would hope they were part of the past few days testing's and cases listed, as it appears they didn't just decide to start building the facility on the factory grounds today, and appears that like prison numbers and other clusters these may have been hidden or delayed from the public.  Seems to be a lot of hiding of these things from the public.  The GF just told me that a factory that produces Shampoo's and body washes down in Samut Prakan, and where her one of her cousins worked until contracting covid 4 weeks ago, is still operating, with many of those employee's having come down with Covid as well, but the factory keeps on doing it's thing.   The cousin who has now been released to return home has to wait another 9 days before she can return to work.  The sad thing is that she and the other workers were all vaccinated with Sinovac 2 months ago.  So yes they are still getting Covid while having previously being vaccinated.  Luckily the Cousin is married to a Thai who had the foresight to buy her insurance which paid for her being in the Hospitel where she received treatment, after all she is from Myanmar like my GF and they are all having to pay for any treatment regardless of having the medical insurance provided with having a work permit that they had to pay for.

These numbers are truly alarming, and you must consider this is only "confirmed" cases.  It's anybody's guess what the actual numbers are considering that many infected people don't yet realize they are infected.

The authorities need to pull out ALL of the stops now and quit pussy-footing around, simply blaming the rise in numbers to the Delta variant.  There are a lot more causes than just the Delta variant:

  • Authorities (politicians) need to put all resources into securing and distributing  vaccines everywhere, not just Bangkok, and from all sources globally instead of continuing to favor home-based sources.  All of this talk about lack of supply is hogwash.  Worldwide, there are ample supplies available to those governments determined to get them.  What's lacking here in Thailand are politicians with the resolve and the determination to cut all the red tape and political shenanigans that are currently being played out.
  • There needs to be an acutal halt to intra-provincial travel that is actually enforced, even travel between Deep-Red zone provinces.  The present travel restrictions and road checkpoints amount to nothing more than political bluffing.  Anyone who has travelled from Pattaya to Bangkok since they started knows they are not being enforced at all.
  • The public also needs to take this much more seriously, and the authorities need to make sure they do.  There are entirely too many people walking around in public selfishly not practicing proper social distancing and mask wearing.

Who would have imagined one year ago when we barely had any cases of Covid that we'd be where we are today?

Your last paragraph says it all one year ago ! Dare I say if they had ordered and payed for200 million vaccines a year ago and started vaccinating the public when they arrive in the Kingdom things would be very different but they the government chose not to that to me is down to utter incompetence they sat on there backsides thinking that they had got away with Covid but now the $#IT has hit the fan and it appears they have gone into hiding

Yea that event lead to quite a few cases, including me having to isolate for a while. Two teachers from my daughters school went there and got infected, 3 students and one parent as a result got infected from them.

The cashier at the event who my wife knows came to our house the following day for a couple of hours before it was known about the outbreak. Consequently until she was tested we had to stay at home.

Not aware of any indoor club there, there were another couple of indoor clubs in Patong that also had an event at the same time however. I guess some may have moved onto there as well but the actual infections that I'm referring to were all at Cafe del Mar event in Kamala which was outdoors round the pool area.

Because there are no inter-provincial Travel restrictions, this long weekend may well bring a sharp increase in Infections to previously unscathed populations ( relatively speaking).

Some provinces have escaped the worse so far, but because there are few places left for the people to run too away from the Covid outbreak, these places for sure will see more influx from Tourists this weekend.

And with them will come the Covid

Vaccinations update by target group:

Note: the percentages below are NOT the amounts of those total populations vaccinated. The percentages ARE share of the government's lesser 70% target goals that have been vaccinated thus far.

The one thing that stands out to me below is... how far they still have to go, and how little they've done thus far, in vaccinating the most vulnerable age 60 and above population, only 19% of their goal having received a first shot, and just over 1% of their goal having received both shots.

But hey, more than 70% of Phuket's population has received their first shot, and they're open to vaccinated tourists again, so life is GOOD!  ????
