Chinese tourists will return to Thailand in October - "great opportunity" say tourism chiefs

A deputy at the Tourism Council of Thailand told Thai Rath that Chinese tourists would start returning to Thailand from October.

This was a great opportunity for the recovery of the tourism industry, said Wichit Prakopkosol.

This would all be part of Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha's grand reopening of the country in 120 days.

Wichit said that as soon as the PM stated this aim he gave "instant hope" to the industry.

He expected workers to return to the tourism business in readiness for the return of the Chinese over the next 2 to 3 months.

They will need to.

The media quoted an academic at the Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya as saying that 75% of tourism businesses were operating at revenue levels 10% of pre-pandemic levels.

68% of tourism businesses had only half their staff left and many were paying reduced rates.

Pakakrong Thepparak said that only half of tourism businesses were still open, 36% had closed temporarily and 4% had gone bust.

Thai Rath didn't explain about the remaining 10%.

Transport on land and sea was still 85% in place but there was very little of it being used for tourism at the moment.

Not true.. Chinese people said in a survey some time back, that they only wanted to come to Thailand if it was 6 months covid free... besides that Chinese people have to get in quarantine if they come back for a few weeks... So fake news again. The Chinese don't come in October.. maybe they want to come yes, but not in a short term

It's a bit confusing, Thailand is on a list of 75 countries published 3 June.

Non-essential travel is prohibited.

Think they have a 14 day quarantine in-bound (returning to China).

Maybe by October this will change?

Great news, it seems like the Tourism Council of Thailand already knows that three weeks mandatory quarantine for Chinese returning from Thailand will be void in October...????????

Well I, for one, wake up every morning and look forward to TAT's announcements..............

That's ok to come up with such future predictions when you can't even be sure what tomorrow will bring, he has to say something to justify his salary and not to be out done by others with such predictions...

Absolute nonsense and this clown should be held responsible for his lies and when this do not happen.

As someone who is in China having to complete 3 weeks mandatory quarantine (2 weeks in a state hotel) puts everyone off.

Coupled with an increase in media FUD that China is the safest place right now, all Chinese I know, don't wan't to leave and take the risk of traveling to Thailand or anywhere else for a holiday, especially to a country that is riddled with COVID and has a poor vaccination programme.

This news article should be filed in the section of pure fantasy.

Why isn't it counting down 120...119....118....117 etc seem like it's always going to be 120 days. How many days left? I forgot when it started lol

The same guy had this bright idea back in March for the beginning of June.

No doubt their reasoning would be, it's better than nothing ????

Your right. What they would not do is buy a better vaccine

Also as westerners we have been actively encouraged not to travel outside of China and try to get back in and do the quarantine, as this may affect the visa and may not be allowed in.

Plus there is a lot of talk from senior people here  that the borders will not open for a year and may even not at all in 2022. It is not in China;'s interest to open there borders yet. They will be still buzzing for months after July's 1st party celebrations.

What would Thailand do if the World Health Organization  banned both Sinovac and AZ? Answer continue AZ and Sinovac Jabs

why would they ban AZ ? Seems to be working somewhat better than the sinovac gel gunk. The fact alone that deaths in my uk is no longer reflected in infection numbers is some comfort - covid was 1 in 120 deaths recently.

What's happening in sinovac countries to me is more worrying. None seem to be making headway against the disease

Probably because  other countries have already banned it, Temporarily stopped using it and are donating it such as Japan. I believe Japan still uses Pfizer and Moderna. Also its been recommended for people over 60 . Doesn't help people under sixty does it?

Isn't this just lovely... Please be careful and watch where you step in the streets!!!

With the beta and delta variants running rampant here there's little to no chance of China allowing tourists anywhere near Thailand.

As @smedly points out, this is probably the real reason for the rush to open within 120 days, sandbox certain areas and vaccinate locals on tourist islands.

Money Number One.

Next Headline

"Tourism officials welcome Chinese tourists to Thailand as they tour the locked down work sites and locked in migrant workers infected with Covid, reminding China of it's past when they locked workers into their work camps like slaves"

They have repeatedly said for almost a year that the Chinese would be returning and each time we here on this forum have had the same comments most here have now.  JUst waiting for their return so we can have the daily entertainment of the following.  Welcome to Thailand....NOT

More BS from these clowns it was only a week ago that China stated it’s borders would remain closed until 2022 the Phuket sandcastle is an absolute joke having to pay for everything even before you set foot into the country the only people coming will be fools with money to waste . I can’t wait for tomorrow to arrive to see the PM greeting the so called 1,000s who have apparently booked to come to Phuket

Phuket sandbox opening tomorrow. Will be graced by PM's presence. Good news right?

a more appropriate photo in the OP would have been of a vacuum sucking up all the coin s on the desk and cash in the jar

PM partnering with Mama Noodles: just add water and microwave for 30 sec = Instant Hope

The Chinese government hasn't given any indication so far that Chinese citizens who return to China won't have to quarantine at state facilities any longer.

This quarantine upon return, by itself, limits the number of outbound Chinese tourists dramatically.

Nothing the Thai government can do about this, but the fact that Thailand will increasingly be seen as a high risk destination sure won't help.
