Popular Post Eric Loh Posted July 25, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 25, 2021 Really a sign that the government is losing control of the situation when we only hear reports of daily infections and deaths and not about plans to control the surging cases. I have not heard of late any plans on making testing readily available and building more field hospitals to isolate the infected people from the general public. Most hospitals have stopped providing tests because of the lack of kits and capacity. They will not test because they have to admit infected people and they simply run out of beds. There still a large proportion of unvaccinated people. Restrictions alone is part solution. People must be tested and the government must provide and announce these testing availability. Many infected people can’t be admitted to isolation facilities and have to stay home and can passed the infection to others. The tracing is almost not heard anymore. The government seem to lose hope to contain the situation and only rely on vaccination and perhaps reaching herd immunity. Real disappointment in way the government handling of the pandemic. 6

I don't live near a beach but remember reading that it's now illegal to even go for a walk on one? What's even left to close. What, can't try on sneakers? A hardship indeed. : ) To answer your question, I did go outside in deep, dark red Bangkok Sukhumvit near the end of last week, about mid-afternoon. For a bit of exercise, I walked to my local hospital to get a medical certificate and blood test for work permit renewal (am assured this is still required). Not much open along the way - a couple of take-out only restaurants. (An aside: passed a guy inert in the grass beside the sidewalk. Spouse convinced me not to check if he was breathing. Hopefully just passed out from something.) Hospital not empty, but not that busy either. I was relieved to find out - after decades of living and working in Thailand - I still do not have tertiary syphilis....nor even leprosy! No idea about COVID, though, since that doesn't seem to be of interest. Walked back, uneventfully. 4 "Why do some places prosper and thrive, while others just suck?" - P.J. O'Rourke

NONG CHOK Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 Hi all, some say there's no restrictions when travelling between 4am and 9pm daily and others say there is restrictions. Are there checkpoints in place during working hours? I've seen a few checkpoints recently and no one was being pulled over. It was late afternoon so maybe they were preparing for the overnight travellers. Cheers. 1

Construction sites which were already supposed to be shuttered but are in fact working at full speed and the workers transported to and from or walking to and from while stopping to shop at 7-11 in large numbers. Limiting the numbers shopping in the Talads instead of them being shoulder to shoulder, but then they are this way because a few have been forced to close because of Covid. It unfortunately can not be done without putting a final nail in the coffin of Thailand, unless this government started to supplement income for all, subsidize the businesses and then deliver free food to folks in need. 2

Measures taken have already turned what was a nice place into a dystopian hellhole of boredom. What is there even left to close? If you ask me, stricter measure that should be taken are simply to enforce the rules that have already been made. For instance, the lockdown on intra-provincial travel announced last week has turned out to be a total joke! I, and many others had to drive into Bangkok this week for our vaccinations, and there was not a single road checkpoint to be seen in either direction! The CCSA (the official agency in charge of managing the pandemic here is Thailand) is very politically oriented and has a history of "talking the talk", but not "walking the walk". They make all sort of announcements, whether it is about containment efforts or the vaccinations rollout, but their words alway differ drastically from their actions. If they just did what they say they are going to do, things right now would be dramatically better than they are. 7

Indeed I'm about to go out soon. I fancy a pad kapeow moo sap kai dow. Pretty much the same on my side of Bangkok here in the Sathon Area, The main streets are pretty quiet but the side soi's and the talads are very busy. Took our morning walk around the area and was even surprised at the amount of traffic, but then it is the start of Buddhist Lent tomorrow. We did see many Monks making their walks to the smaller Wats this morning as well, looks like they are returning to their home Wats where they will stay for the next 3 months to study, meditate, pray, and teach the younger monks. 1 1

I know a couple of cases and they just stay at home because they don’t see the point going to a hospital that is full anyway. One of the maids of one my staff, for example. And that maid is a live-in maid who doesn’t have anywhere to go. So my staff and her whole family are now quarantining at home with a maid that tested positive. One of my gf’s drivers actually drove all the way to Ayutthaya to get into a hospital because he was worried that his symptoms could get worse. Everyone told him there’s no point and indeed he ended up in some field hospital. The maids are all Burmese and no one knows when they can get vaccinated.

Kinnock Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 If you factor down the new daily case numbers in India to match Thailand population - you get 15,000. I know there's lots of variables like testing rates, vaccination and health of local populations, but the simplistic media reports only focus on big total numbers, not per capita .... fortunately for Thailand and the tourism plans. 2
